Default Brake pedal- click at top of pedal travel?? anyone?

I posted this on another forum.. but thought i would ask here as well..

When I press on the brake pedal, from time to time i keep feeling this one click right at the top of the brake pedal.. then the next time i press it.. nothing.. but if i wait, the next time i start to apply the brakes, the pedal clicks one time again.. never have seen this on a car before.. anyone else have this on their tC? I am taking it in to get checked out.. it's kind of annoying.. let me know..

It's probably the cruise switch sticking. There's one at the brake pedal and at the clutch pedal - it's what tells your cruise control to disengage when you push the brake or clutch in. Just get in there with some PB Blaster or WD-40 and hit it, you'll be fine.

There's a switch for the cruise and brake lights. They could be the same switch or separate. I think mine does it too, but it's nothing to worry about. I think things like this get noticed because the car is so quiet to begin with.

Mine does it as well, but it doesn't bother me too much. I was thinking that it was just slop at the top of the pedal travel. The pedal doesn't seem to have any resistance at the very top and kind of snaps up at the top making the click. This was just my guess.

thanks mudd.. it's the brake light switch.. i took a look and it's a couple things.. one is definitely the brake light switch, which is loose and moving around!! it's also clicking.. the other thing is the return spring on the pedal has a rubber insert just sitting in there for stiffness i guess.. it slides out and almost falls out when the brake pedal is used.. not right..

so the dealer will be getting that fixed. looks like a bad batch of parts.. clicking is one thing, but stuff falling apart as you use it.. that's another thing! that insert in the spring is a joke.. but.. so that's what a warranty is for! i'll let ya know how it goes..

Sounds crazy, but no other cars I have driven (which is not a ton, mind you) do not do this. When the car is off and everything, does pressing the accelerator click on it's travel downward for you guys? I am thinking it may have something to do with the drive-by-wire design, but not sure. Not a question that warrants its own thread mind you, so I will just post it here

my 96 civic does a click on the brake too but you can barely hear it.. my 93 camry and 2002 lexus... i dont think the click is for stop light its actually a release for your transmission so you can shift to whatever with AUTOMATICs. when you start your car you push down the brake to shift, the click is to release it/unlock.

its for automatics. but depends how you drive and brake then you wont hear it....

Default i think

i think i know what you guys are talking about. i could be wrong though. that little clicking sound tells you that you have pressed the brake light far enough to take the car out of "Park".

try it. step on the brake enough before hearing the clicking sound and try taking it out of park, it shouldn't let you. now press the brake far enough until you hear the click and you will notice that now you will be able to take it out of park.

a lot of the cars that i've driven do this, not only the tC. it's not really noticeable unless hear for it.
