You got disc brakes... They are going to squeal. But eventually, this will mean it's just time to change the brake pads... I had the same issue with mine, but they lasted me a good while after they started squealing. That is ok. Grinding means get your butt to the Auto shop, buy you some brake pads for what? $25 and start a changing!

it is normal also depends on those 23k miles how you were using your brakes riding them or hard braking

If you park outside overnight, moisture build up on your brakes can also cause it to make that sound. If you notice rust spots on your discs that might be the cause and happens normally this time of year.

I have seen newer (aka non asbestos) pads squeal straight out of the box. Sometimes you can do things to get rid of it, sometimes you cant. Check them and leave them alone if they are not worn out. There are products you can try to get rid of the squeal as well. Some spray on the rotor, some are applied to the backs of the pads to reduce play in the components, which is what causes a lot of the squeal.

If they are indeed worn out at 24k from street use, you need to start watching your driving habits. You should be getting around 40,000 miles out of a set of pads unless you are driving it very hard.

it should be easy enough to stick your head in there and see if there is still meat on the pads. if they look good then your fine.

i have noticed mine squeek once or twice recently but usually after the car has been sitting for a day or so in the rain and there is lots of rust on the rotors.

the reason it's squeaking is the brake pads are shifting slightly in the brake caliper when you go into reverse. To fix this, you apply anti-noise compound, looks like toothpaste to the mounting clips and apply anti-noise lubricant between the pad and the shims. This will remove the squeaking. Had friend's tc's that had this problem and this is how we fixed it! His was also in reverse, but sometimes in forward too. After it was fixed, noise hasn't come back at all.

Double check to see how much pad life is left. If they are worn down then change them.

If you're getting 24,000 miles on your first set of brakes then I suggest that you vary your driving style. I'm still on my first set and they're just starting to squeak at 80,000 miles...
