If a cop drives up along side you, you're not going to get pulled over. They're either messing with you or don't actually care. Chances are if they want to see inside your car, they'll pull you over and do it.

It wasn't just coincidence that he pulled along side me and matched my speed exactly. This guy was actively leaning over to get a look into my car and I just tried to stay focused and look straight ahead. I know he had a suspicion of something. Just didn't want to find out. It was real late at night and the roads were deserted.

He was running your tags and probably comparing your DL info from the car registration; it's a pretty common practice.

And yes police and highway patrol do sometimes drive along side cars and pull people over here in California.

While we are on this subject, I found a useful video on YouTube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqMjMPlXzdA

It's about 45 minutes and kind of cheesy, but it basically tells you what the cops can and cannot do, and what your rights are when you get pulled over. It's actually very informative. People just assume that they have to obey the cops, but you really have a lot of personal rights when you get pulled over. Worth watching if your are bored.

Man perfect statement. Cops would rather give speeding ticket or bogus tickets in general to make money.

I got a ticket when I hydroplaned in my civic, I mean he knew I had to pay a deductible but he does it so they can get a piece of the pie. My dad got a ticket when someone ran a red light and clipped his car in the rear when he was making a left hand turn to exit the intersection. What kind of crap is this?

I swear I wish people would stand together against this abuse of the law. I mean we hire them to keep public safety and they hire us when they give us tickets to pay for their retirement. It's just wrong. We need to take back our rights and tell these ***** to do right or you're out of here. "the power is yours" (had to add a cap. planet plug in, sorry)

Seems to me the other driver failed to yield to traffic as in engifineer's accident. And don't ever use the words "lost control" - use "braked with a controlled skid" or took evasive action to prevent property damage to the other vehicle.

I'd definitely take that ticket to court. This reminds me of a similar situation that happened to me when I was younger- I was following someone in a big Cadillac (not closely mind you,) and the person in front of him decided to slam on their brakes to make a left turn at the last moment. The Cadillac hit their brakes, I hit mine, and rear-ended the guy in the Cadillac. I was given a ticket (I don't remember exactly what for...some failure to control my vehicle or somesuch.) I went to court and the cop wasn't even there- and it was thrown out.

i'm sure quite a lot of people know they have personal rights. the problem with that is, if you don't let them get their way, they will definitely get **** on you the next time. pretty much gotta watch out for them all the time.

When cops want to score an easy ticket, they go for window tint, and I believe thats probably why rod was being followed.

Dunno, the windows were down, and this was after I got rid of my 18% so I only had 50%.

FIGHT THE MAN!

That is total BS... for all you know you just saved the other drivers life by NOT hitting him and taking the median...

And why is it that they give the stupid tickets when they don't have to work for it...

I mean how often do people get pulled over for this kind of stuff without the accident? What about failure to signal? Failure to be a competent driver?

Default Woot Ticket Dismissed

Just thought I'd add that I went to court today for the ticket and the charges were dismissed. WOOT! See sometimes the court system works the way it should!
