Default Calling all Tc Auto Owners

I've used the search and couldnt seem to find any of the answers i'm looking for. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm planning on getting an '06 Tc with auto transmission within the next few weeks.
After doing homework on manual transmissions, I no longer have a desire to learn manual.

Basically, I've heard too many complaints, and I dont think it would be a good move, living in Nyc

My questions are, you owners of automatic tc's how do you feel about your car?

Meaning, are you happy with your purchase?

Did you get the extended warranty?

Did you test drive before buying?

Are you happy with the stock tires?

Do you feel like you made a better purchase than say a civic/ corrolla?

Any mechanical or other problems besides the rattles, chipping paint, that i hear about in every post?

I've been down to the dealership and i love how the car "looks" but i'm very curious as to what its like to "own" one for a period of time.

I've seen answers to some of these questions from manual owners and i'm curious to see if owning an auto is the same, and if there are other things that i need to be looking out for.

Thanks in advance.

YEs its better than a civic and corolla by far way cooler in my opinion. No other complaints besides minor rattle. I love it no regrets

I am happy, no extended warranty (toyota builds reliable cars and most likely if anything happens, it will happen within the first 60k powertrain miles. or the basic 3yr 36k miles. Yes I test drove (I was scared cause I test drove a car with 18's and an auto and I wasn't used to the brakes. I thought the brakes weren't working properly till he told me that they are on the soft side). Stock tires are ok for summer driving, in the rain its not good, but it performs its function. As soon as I wear down the tires, I am going to get really nice set of tires. I hate these. Yes, this car is way better than the civic and corolla in my opinion. Bigger engine, more for your money, a lot of standard features, bigger car. No problems that were caused by mismanufacturing or the toyota (my headlight harness burned out due to the usage of higher wattage luminics hyper white bulbs). Its a great feeling. People still look at my car and ask me about it. Best part is when they ask me the price and then ask me again just to confirm that they heard right. They usually say, "thats it?"

thanks alot B. That was very helpful as well. I'll most likely keep the stock rims for a few years.

It sucks that the stock tires dont seem to last that long. I guess i'll keep some money on the side for some replacements, with a lifetime warranty i guess. I know a pretty good tire shop.

I think that the stock tires are at least capable of 30k miles. Im at 11k and I just rotated my tires and looks like there is a lot of life in it still.

I have approx. 12,000+ miles on my tC and have no complaints whatsoever in the engine or mechanical department (knock on wood). I live in PA and I've drivin to GA and back, and a few months later I drove to NC and back with absolutely no problems. And it's great because of the looks I get from other people checkin' out my sweet ride.

I didn't get the extended warranty because I think it's crazy to put out an extra $2,000 or so for something that you only MIGHT need. No thanks.

The only thing that gave me some trepidation in buying the car was Toyota Service. Toyota makes excellent cars - my parents have been buying them for years - but their service department has given my parents nothing but problems. But for me, so far, service has been good except for my most recent visit for a simple oil change and tire rotation. Whoever worked on my car put tiny knicks in two distinct places on my passenger door. I was steamed!

But all in all, I think the tC is the best car I've ever owned and I don't regret the purchase one bit. And besides, how many Civics and Corollas do you see on the road? Ask yourself that same question about the tC.

My questions are, you owners of automatic tc's how do you feel about your car?
I love the car, the urge to mod is strong!

Meaning, are you happy with your purchase?
Very happy

Did you get the extended warranty?
No, I just got the gap coverage but thats all

Did you test drive before buying?
well, i got the paperwork started and gave them the $300 hold and my specs/options, then I drove one.

Are you happy with the stock tires?
I cant complain, but i am planning on getting some new 18's

Do you feel like you made a better purchase than say a civic/ corrolla?
no contest

Any mechanical or other problems besides the rattles, chipping paint, that i hear about in every post?
..... yea the paint isnt great, i have swirls, scratches, and on ship that i know of. but unless you go looking for them they arent noticeable.

There are two different sets of tires that come with the car as well. I test drove a car with the Potenzas and they sucked big-time, but the Yokohamas on my car are not that bad. They skitter a bit in the rain and I seem to have the low-tire-pressure light on a lot. The automatic has plenty of power for daily driving and passing. I used to drive a stick in traffic to work every day and I hated it.

I have had the car about two months, and I really like it. This car beats the Corolla because it is actually cheaper w/comparable accessories and the Corolla has 0 style. The old Civic was not even comparable. I haven't driven the '06 Civic, but I like the tC's look much better.

IMO, the extended warranties are a waste of money.

love the style of my car. i always get compliments on it. the auto has pep to it, but also is nice and smooth when you are just cruisin'. the interior room is great! i can carry my bicycle in the back no prob. tires are good, could stand to be a little more sticky for spirited driving. The features for the price are second to none. steering wheel controls are awsome! this is my daily driver and i am totally satisfied with my purchase.

24,000 miles and love it. I dont have an auto, so I cant speak for that part, but I do not have an extended warranty. So far the car has acted great. The paint is a little touchy, but I find that is the case with most new vehicles unfortunately. I have the potenzas, which do suck, but they do the job if you drive ok. I have even driven them on the snow a couple of times here... they are definitely not great, but do ok if you know how to drive on slick roads. I will be switching them for something better at around 30,000 I am guessing. They will probably be needing it by then.

The car has a nice amount of power for a 4 banger, and with the short gearing (at least in the 5 spd) it does awesome stock. Of course FI is always better though

I have driven it multiple times to OK from MN to see my family (about 620 miles one way) and it does really well over the road.

Anyway, that is my input

Meaning, are you happy with your purchase?
Yes I am.
Did you get the extended warranty?
No.
Did you test drive before buying?
Yes.
Are you happy with the stock tires?
Yes, I'm at 37K miles and I still have a bit less than half the treads left. Although it has less grip now, I can still take up some spirited driving.
Do you feel like you made a better purchase than say a civic/ corrolla?
Definitely. More content, more power, much better cornering.
Any mechanical or other problems besides the rattles, chipping paint, that i hear about in every post?
No. Since I have an auto, there hasn't been clutch or shifter problems. No misshifts.
I've been down to the dealership and i love how the car "looks" but i'm very curious as to what its like to "own" one for a period of time.
It's a great buy. Just don't think it's the fastest or best car ever. For its price, it's the best 2-door out there. Owning an auto is fine since there's plenty of torque for the transmission. Less temptation of racing and doing stupid things on the streets.

Very very very happy
No extended warranty
Test drove another auto yes
Stock tires suck - changed 'em almost first thing.
Civics are blah, I might have gotten a corolla but the tC's a better value IMO
No mechanical problems or rattles, etc.

Great buy.. go for it.

My questions are, you owners of automatic tc's how do you feel about your car?

Love it.

Meaning, are you happy with your purchase?

Definately. I live in Southern California. It takes me 40 min to an hour to travel 16 miles from home to work in bumper to bumper traffic. Automatic still has sufficient power for the daily driver.

Did you get the extended warranty?

No. Like with most extended warrenties, they are most likely a waste of money. They always try to push that on you because they know that 95% of the people that purchase them don't ever get use out of it, pure profit, no extra work for them.

Did you test drive before buying?

Yes, although try to find a dealership that will let you drive more than 1/2 a mile (boo Cerritos Scion)

Are you happy with the stock tires?

Seem a bit insecure in the rain, grip is average at best.

Do you feel like you made a better purchase than say a civic/ corrolla?

I would say so. I had a Civic before and while it is true the new SI came out after I got my car, I have no regrets. Corrolla is good solid transporation. That's about it.
