I unplugged the O2 sensor from the airbox today and suprising the car ran like crap. It stated up but when i went to drive it it sounded like crap and stalled when i shifted into second. It suxed. i was curious what would happen thats why i tryed it..

Has anybody tryed this? or found away to get around it?

My friend has a 04 cavey LS and he can unplug his o2 censor and the car runs fine. It is crazy!!

 

why did you unplug the sensor anyway?

 

the O2 sensor in the airbox is used by the computer to determine how much fuel to mix with the incoming air. i doubt your buddies cavy ran good with that one disconnected. what is more likely is that he disconnected the one on the exhaust which is only there for emissions purposes.

one of the main reasons i did this, wasa becuase i tryed to put a cone air filter on where my air box was, then use some rubber tubeing to connect the filter to the existing tube. and make a hole for the O2 sensor to go in on top. But it did not work.

 

One time I drove without the steering connected. Didn't work out well.

i've tested it too cause i was messing with my air box and intake and blah blah


usually with out the O2 sensor (intake) the car will start and stall on its own or will not let u rev pass 3 rpm.

 

....dont' they charge you when you return the car...and it's like all raped. ?

 

And this kids is why don't buy a used car that was leased.

 

The o2 sensor is in the exhaust, on the cat and near the collector. The sensor on the intake is a maf/map sensor. It measures airflow and sends a signal to the ecu, the ecu then will add fuel/remove fuel based on this reading.

The reason your car was running like ____ is if the sensor is not in the pipe it detects no airflow, so thus it will pull back fuel and the end result is rough idle,

Thats not an 02 sensor genious!! Thats your MAF sensor! DURRRRR!! Cars won't run with it unplugged, and why would you do that anyway?

Yeah, what you unplugged is the Mass Air Flow sensor. The O2 sensor checks the amount of O2 left after combustion, and the ECU uses that information to calculate whether more fuel is necessary. At least I think that's how it works.

 

Correct. And removing the O2 sensor can throw off the A/F mixture just like the MAF. It's like a before and after check...
