CarMax appraised my 05 tC...
6400 miles, mint condition, with side airbag and tint (the rest are stock and well kept),
Carmax appraised it $14,500
If I turn it in today, I would lose about $5000 in one year, and that's about 35% of the car value in one year. Pretty scary. I think this is worse than some domestic cars like Ford or Dodge.
What do you guys think?

That's definately low balling it. and as far as KBB, that's not what dealers use in Texas so it wouldn't be accurate. You can go by whatever price you want if you try to sell your car ... but people will only pay what they feel is the right price. Try edmunds.com pricing. I put your car in and it said $17,013 which is more realistic, cuz if you look on autotrader most are going for atleast that if not way more. You're prolly would go for atleast 18k with such low miles.

kbb is bs. kbb does not sell cars.. and they only get the average of cars that are on the bank statements.. go look up a used 2006 tc... with 10000 miles.. it ends up at 20k + change... and brand new one is 16.9k ttt
then the dealers work out the deals and get the numbers by adjusting.. what the trade is worth and how much you actually get the price of the car for. so nothing is true. it's just a average... use your head. people have to make money... not buy your car at a loss... and usually... once you drive the new car off the lot.. you lose alot.. and it's another name on the title... which lowers value.

OK, I did some further study on this car and here is what I learned:
1- I bought the tC in 09/05 for $18k (with side curtain airbags, mat, alarm, and cargo net.
2- The same car on autotrader with 10-20k miles will be selling for $15k-$16k.
3- KBB value is over inflated and incorrect. Our car, no matter how good it is, will never hold its value that well. $145,000 really should be the standard trade-in value.
4- I don't believe that there is a supply issue here. Most people get their custome ordered tC within 2-4 weeks. It's a small price to pay and you get a virgin car that was never touched by anyone else. Moreover, the strict price control from Toyota isn't really helping tC resale either. tC might get some better returns when it's out of production.
5- Our tC suffered some quality issues (none like Ford Focus, but not quite as solid as Civic or even Mazda 3), and this is basically hurting its reputation among young buyers. The consequence? Resale value is not as good as other Toyota cars (probably is worse than Corola).
So, I guess I will have no choice but to hold the car. In 2-3 years when I finally paid it off, I will see this car lose at least 50% of its initial value. That's not very good consider Honda Accord, Civic are known for holding their value well. I was hoping to get a basic Tocoma (it's so hard to find a used one). Now I have to scrap that idea and find another way to do my remodeling chores.
What do you guys think? All I learned is that I will never buy a new car again!

For $145,000 i'll gladly part with my tC and buy 10 more . Im sure theres an extra number in there.
Why do you not want to buy a new car anymore? Just curious. Personally though, if i can find a great deal on a used car that i like, i think that would be a smart move too; But i wouldnt hold out on the possibility of a new car.

We just bought a house and it's a fix-upper. So, I can't carry tools and materials in my tC or the family sedan (camry). My wife will not allow me to buy a 3rd car even if it's a beater truck. So, I was hoping to sell tC, pay off my loan, then buy a comparable priced Tacoma or Frontier. With $145,000, I'd be lucky to score a Tacoma with 150k miles on it.
