Default CEL just appeared

I'm a few hundred miles away from my 15k miles.. my bro said that the reason the CEL is on is because of the 15k "maintenance" limit and I shouldnt have anything to worry about.. is this true? I have a CAI, but it's been on for almost 10k miles...

I've checked all the fluids, and I've been to all my scheduled maintenance and my next one is in 4k miles.. is the CEL most likely just the 15k mile maintenance????

nope.. CEL won't come on because of that.

there must be another issue. try resetting the ecu?

you shouldn't drive with that light on.

What could it possibly be?! I mean ____ its been driving great.. I maintain all the fluids, all the tire pressure.. it just appeared on, on Sat morning..

If I take it to toyota, they should be able to hookup their computers and determine what it is correct?

I just went to Toyota.. they said 95 dollars to check it!! WTF??!?!?

I asked the guy about how long it takes and he said about 4 hours.. I then said "It takes 4 hours to hookup a machine to read what the CEL means?" and he said no that it was busy, and that I should just come back tomorrow!! ?!

If my engine gets ruined.. I'm taking it to toyota and quoting that guy..

He said "Well it is running wierd?" I said "No.. its running absolutely normal.. I even checked all the fluids, tires, brakes etc.. nothing appears out of the ordinary" and thats when he said "well it's pretty busy.. you should come back tomorrow.. .I doubt the CEL is anything to worry about"

you can always try to get rid of it by resetting the ecu.. (disconnect battery for a few minutes)

if it comes back, then.. then yes.. you have a problem..

Try checking the gas cap. . . a loose gas cap will set off the CEL

It's too hard to troubleshoot the car and not be in front of it. Get the code checked and see what happens. For all I know, it was a tank of bad gas.

But from what I've seen and using the rule of generalizations, it's probably an over oiled or poorly filtering CAI filter that fouled that MAF. But it's a pretty big generalization, since anything can set off a CEL.

Well friday night it was driving fine.. no CEL.. I turn it on Sat morning and thats when I first noticed it..

The only thing I've done to it since then, was take off my front bumper, take off both my headlights to caulk them, in the process I biffed up a fuse ,so I took off my fuse box and and changed the fuse.. in the process of putting on my headlights and bumper, I forgot to put the fusebox cover back on.. so I'm currently driving around without a cover (I need to go back to where I was working on my car.. but its pretty far)...

I took it to Autozone and they ran the check for free.. It said P0441 and P0445 and it said something about EVAP and Emission Control something or other...

EDIT: it said this for the 441 "P0441 evaporative emission control system incorrect purge flow" the 445 said something else tho

EDIT: I just read up on the 445, supposodly the valve has short circuited..
"P0445 Evaporative Emission Control System Purge Control Valve Circuit Shorted"

does toyota warranty against this? cars a year and a month old with 14,800 miles...

You're under 36k miles; I think the warranty covers just about anything that happens to the car that isn't the fault of you 1) driving it into a tree or 2) putting some sort of mods on yourself.

I'd take it to Toyota and have them check it. There shouldn't be any charge for running a CEL diagnostic on a car that's under warranty, but fixing it is a different story... oh and you might want to take your CAI off before you go if it's something you put on after you got the car :>

it is something I put on the car after, I even told the dude at Toyota that I had a CAI and he said dont worry about that.. they work on cars with them all the time..

I'm taking it to toyota tomorrow and telling them what the CEL is about and that I have a CAI and see what they say..

I have the AEM intake which is exactly like the TRD (which they warranty against), and AEM makes the TRD intake.. plus.. dont they have to first determine that it was the intake that caused the issue?

it was prolly something u put on, then the CEL needed time to adjust then cut itself off.

well........maybe.

example.
i had an sentra se-r and put a aem CAI on it. my CEL was on for a couple of days then turned off
