Check Engine Light @ 160 Miles
Driving to work this morning and I see that my effin check engine light is on. I just picked up my car last week and it has 160 miles on the odo...No unusual sounds or weird feel to the drive. New to the scion tC world, so is there any sort of issues that other people have had with their tCs? Any ideas as to what it could be?
i really don't wanna go back to the dealership.

Did you put gas in it recently? A loose fuel cap may cause that light to go on-- Other than that, that light can come on for many many many different reasons- there could be a problem in the engine, emission control system, etc.... the only way to know for sure is to get the code and see what's causing the check engine light to come on--
any mods to the car, like headers or anything??? That could cause it to come on as well.....

is there an easy way to pull the code (I knew how to pull the code on my honda, but I had to rip up a piece of my interior to get to it...i don't wanna do that to my new car.lol)?...It just happened this morning, I'm at work now..
go back to the dealer cus if something is wrong they will fix it for free and if the same thing happens two more times they give u a brand new car "lemon law " im just say thats if u want the only reason i know is cus i work at one
thanks for your help...i didn't know that, and will look into it if more problems surface...I thought new cars were supposed to be trouble-free?.lol...Maybe this is just my old car "Ugly Betty" (1992 Accord) getting back at me for trading her in..
You dont really even know if you have a real issue, so I wouldnt worry that the car is troublesome or anything
And issues can occur right out of the door on any car. Chances are it is something small.
As far as the lemon law, there is la ittle more to it than that. It is more along the lines of them not being able to fix an issue after repeatetd attempts. The law differs from state to state as well. And honestly, I would get my code pulled somewhere else before taking it to your dealer unless you can get the dealer to verify that they will do that part for free. I have heard tons of stories from people that have thier dealer charge them 80 bucks to pull a code if they find that the issue does not fall under warranty. Granted, whatever it is should fall under warranty at this point for you, but there are a lot of shady dealers out there. 80 bucks to pull a code is a complete and total joke (A good, honest mechanic will do that for free), but it happens.

Usually, when you go to the dealer and your car is still under the warranty parameters (by time and mileage), they will make you sign something that says if they diagnose your car and it turns out to be a warrantable repair, you don't pay anything, but if it turns out that it is a non-warranty repair, you will pay the dealer for the time and/or labor they took to diagnose it.
but its only been a few days go back and talk to ur sales person and tell them that ur not happy and if they dont fix it that ur going to F them on the survey ( when u buy a car the manufacture sends u a survey on ur experience on the dealer and the dealer gets in truble if they get a bad one ) so talk to ur sales person. i had a customer get a flat tire the day after they got the car and we fixed it asap just to make him happy

Just got back from the dealership service center and the diagnosis was a bad oxygen sensor ...I'm guessing that the fuel cap is a common problem though cuz that's the first thing the service manager asked me when I got out of the car. Thanks everyone for their help...Glad it wasn't anything serious.
Nah...they took care of it for free. Glad they didn't because it would have been world war III in there, haven't had the car for a week yet. thanks for the heads up though, i'll be keeping my eyes open for the future.
