Default Circuit City Remote Starter

First post here My wife just ordered a 2005 FM tC and she wants a remote starter because of the winters up here in VT. The dealer has quoted us $350 for installation of an Astrostart 803 which seems to be there most basic model. He also said we'll need to buy an extra key for the starter, which is another $100. Looking around this week I noticed Circuit City has a deal on the DEI Python 1400XP for $199 installed. Has anyone seen or heard anything about this model? I know DEI make the Viper stuff, but I can't find any reviews of the Python. So, any insights? I'm really excited about the new tC coming, I'm driving a 2003 Matrix XR 4wd and it's severly underpowered...I'll definitely be taking the tC a couple of days a week

I prefer viper auto starters. I went to go get one for my car but you have to have a moduel that will by pass the cars security. The car won't start if the chip in the key is not present so you have to by pass that feature. Viper I know has all the stuff you need to do it.

Guys dont waste your money on junk. A compnay called luxrymotorworks makes remote starters for the lexus models and now is making them for the TC. They quoted me 300 and it uses the factory remote no extra remotes or anyting. Its great I am gonna get mine put in as soon as Payday comes

I have a Clifford Responder with remote start, and I know that you dont need to get an extra key. They can use the valet key that should have come with your car. Also, please do not trust Circuit City(or Best Buy) with this install. I have heard multiple problems that have arose from places like this installing these types of products, and I would reccommend only getting something like this installed at a trusted Auto sound/electronics place.

You can find out more about remote starters at www.directed.com

- Python is a decent brand and will last well if installed properly.

- Yes, as said above your valet key can be used in the installation.

- Remote starters that utilize your factory keyless entry fob to remote start the car are crap. Why? Because you can only start your car from maybe 50 feet away. The distance you can lock/unlock your car is the same distance you can remote start it.

- That $199 installed model will likely cost closer to $300 once they know your car has a transponder.

The shop I work at, everyone uses the 2-way clifford remote start with security. One of the best out there. They charge 500 installed, or you can get the unit itself for like 250-300 then install it yourself. Don't cheap out on remote start.

The website only show one for the Scion xB, but they do mention that they are always adding new models.

My real concern is range. What is the operating range of "LuxLink Remote Start" system? Most remote start systems are good for 1000 feet.

I shot off an email to LuxLink with the range question. Here's the response I got.

Thank you for your interest in LuxLink.
What ever your range is of the factory remote key that is the range to
start the car. Every car is different. Some have range up to 100 yards
and others are only 50 feet. Buildings and window film will also affect
your range.

Thanks again for your interest,
Steve

^^^^With that info i'd say skip LuxLink, and go for the Clifford Responder. It comes with an antanea especially for the alarm, and I can start my car from like 1/2 a mile away when my car is in a parking structure.

Just stick with Viper or the Clifford RSX 3.5. I like the fact that you can start your car from FAR away. You don't have to be right next to it!! 2-Way Paging is the thing to do haha Of course it comes with alarm too.

If you're in the San Gabriel Area, head to Kembo, or get one of those Asian Magazines. A lot of great deals, and you can bargain.

Yes, you can have all those factory options if you just to decide to get the remote start. But hey just get it with the alarm and the keyless instead. Well thats if youre not in a tight budget. If you have any questions or concerns about the install just ask. Im pretty sure im not the only one who has installed alarms for a living.

I personally have the Python 1400XP system in my tC. It was purchased from and installed by circuit city. I would say it's a pretty decent system, I am going to be getting it taken out though and replaced by a Viper 791XV and getting the Python put in my fiance's G6.
