would it be possible to swap clusters with another tC? or would the odometer play a huge part in this?

 

actually i just found that out on another tc forum. the gauges DOES retain the odometer information. so if you swap out the gauges, you'll be recieving his mileage information.

If mileage information gets transferred, then technically, swapping clusters with another vehicle is illegal.

There are strict laws concerning odometer abuse that you MUST check on before swapping.


Just curious... why would you want to swap?

yes it is stored.. .they can download it from the obdII therefor ull be f'ed if u swap...

 

I smell fishiness. I thought the odo and other stuff were in the ecu or black box. Doubt its retained in the cluster.

it's stored in the gage cluster... it's been tested and confirmed.

 

Exactly, it's not stored in the computer or the black box. It's exactly the same as the XB and XA.

 

so what do i do if i fry mine?

when you order a new one you have to report how many miles you have so they can program it

 

I'm fairly sure both the cluster and the ECU both keep track of mileage and looks for discrepencies between the two.

 

that's what you think. Sorry to tell you this, but the mileage is not stored anywhere but the cluster.

 

Ok, I have a question to go with all this. If I get another cluster to mod (so I don't destroy my OEM one), can I take my modified cluster into the dealership and have them change its OD mileage to match my OEM one before doing the swap?
