Default CLUTCH START CANCEL SWITCH???

I'd like to know if some has installed a "clutch start cancel switch" for their MT tCs like the one for the FJ-Cruiser???

And is it possible to retrofit the cancel switch from those Toyota trucks?

BTW: Will this void my warranty??? and yes! I tried searching

Thanks peeps!

Are you talking about where you wouldn't have to have the clutch in the start the car? I did this on my old 91 Plymouth Laser, just have to make sure it's in neutral before starting. On that car, there was a white connector above the clutch pedal that I just had to disconnect. I noticed this weekend there was a similar connector on the tC above the clutch pedal, but I didn't try to disconnect it. Maybe give that a shot.

i think maybe he's talkin about a way to start the car without havin the clutch down. My VW does it. Don;t know if the tC has one, but i know they make a bypass kit so you could remot start it for example....

I don't like pushing the clutch when starting the car... my friend has a switch for his Tacoma, so when his lazy to press the clutch, he just put it in neutral and just start the car(truck).

Is this possible to do this in the tC?

Im pretty sure its possible to do with any car. But I don't see why you would want to do it. I mean if You don't push the clutch then, you'll have to push it 5 seconds later when getting it into gear anyway.

yes...pushing that pedal and turning the key is simply too much effort.

anyway, yes, it can be done. i don't think it is usually called a neutral bypass or something like that so you can start the car in neutral without having to push the clutch pedal in to start it.

and it will only void your warranty if installation is directely responsible for a problem you may encounter. i'd just leave it. the clutch start cancel is more of a neccessity for off-roading and you stall out on the trail, and you need to start out in first or second gear.

cars do have them so you don't accidentally start in gear and plow into the car infront of you. this was done to limit manufacturer liability.

i remember reading about a lamborghini with a remote start. the idiot remote started teh car, and the car idled 20 feet into the next car in its path. i say, you don't need to bother with a clutch bypass. your friends tacoma is equipped with one for off-roading sakes. not because tacoma owners are lazy though you friend is, but because it was built for offroading.

i'm too lazy to shift gears on my five speed now. is there anyway i can get the car to shift gears automatically? i was wondering if i could install an automatic transmission like my grandma has in her buick? all she does it move the lever from "p" to "d" and pushes the gas pedal, and the car does the rest of the work for her. will doing this void my warranty?

press the clutch when you start the car, or press it 5 seconds after you start it. What is the difference in this?

People dont stay on this site due to kids with bad attitudes and no knowledge. This is a different story. I have to agree about laziness. If you are too lazy to push the clutch to start the vehicle, then you probably shouldnt go for a drive.

On the FJ the switch is there to allow you to start on a hill by using the starter with the truck in gear. When you are stuck on a steep hill and stall on the trail, it can be very hard to manuver while taking off in a 5spd. They use a heavy duty starter, and allow you to bypass the clutch, put the truck in low gear and turn the key. It will start the truck and pull it forward with te starter to make the take off easier.

100% useless on a street car unless the clutch switch fails on you. Or I guess if you just dont have the energy to press the clutch pedal one extra time. In that case, buy an auto.

But I guess if you really think you need this, you can just find the clutch switch and install a simple bypass switch for it on the dash.

If it's in gear when you start, your starter isn't going to like you much.

Unless your starter is super buff then it'll only scoff at your feeble effort to harm it and as it flexes its muscles to haul your FJ cruiser up and out of where ever it was before you turned the keys.

On my previous two BMWs 88 528e and 91 318is they both didnt have a neutral switch, just make sure your car is in neutral and turn the key. It was pretty wierd at first but you gotta get used to it. the only time you would probably need to take it off is if you had a 4 or 6 puck drag race ceramic or carbon/kevlar clutch that would make starting the car with the clutch in a big pain in the A.

I see how this can be usefull. My car is parked in a way where the passenger side is in direct line to my side door (of my house). Some (most) mornings I warm my car up while i brush my teeth and do my hair. I don't like having to go all the way around my car, in the seat and press the clutch to start the car. Most of the time my brother's car is right up on my driver's side and makes it difficult to get it once, let alone twice. It's more convenience than laziness. The easier it is to operate your car the more you love it. And for me the better I start my day, the better the rest of my day is.

The reason I mentioned is indeed why it is on the FJ. Yes, it is hard on the starter, and it is not meant to be used that way every day. But off-roading is hard on the whole truck, yet they built it partially for that purpose. It is there to allow you to start off again on a hill or in a tight spot where you cant pop the clutch. If you have every driven an older manual tranny with a dead clutch cylinder or broken clutch cable you will know what I mean. I drove 20 miles, part of it through town, once having to start off in first using the starter at each stop sign because my clutch master cylinder dumped its fluid in my floorboard And in 4 LO, the starter has plenty of power to move the FJ (or they wouldnt have provided the bypass to begin with). less than 30 seconds at a time should be attempted though, to prevent overheating the starter.
