Hi, I would like to know if anyone has a rattle that sounds like it is coming from somewhere on the undercarriage between the back tires. It sounds more like a bump than a rattle. It is driving me insane. The dealership can't hear it of course. HELP!!!

I wish I would have read the previous 10 or so posts. I don't think anyone can figure out what is actually wrong with a car without literally looking at it. This is a place for suggestions. If you don't want suggestions....don't ask. I welcome any for my problem.

Rattles are complicated. . . if the dealer can't find it, try another dealer.

It could be something as simple as a loose spare tire in the back, or it could be something entirely unrelated. As far as I know, what you describe does not sound like a common rattle, but I'm not too sure on that one.

I've checked the spare tire. I've been UNDER the car. I've tried shaking everything underneath. I've kicked the tires. And now I'm kicking myself because it is making me nuts. For as much as this is bothering me you would think the car was falling down around me. I HATE noises you can't find.

I had a dull thumping near my rear tires, thought it might be suspension prob. My Scion mech heard it crawled under thecar and said "sway bar bushings." maybe check that out, they are easy enough to replace with superior parts. hope that helps

I took my car into the dealership a month ago for the wind noise you all spoke of earlier and now it's doing the same thing. One of my club members told me he had his in the shop three times for the same thing. When they fixed it the first time they told me the sun roof had to be reset and it took about two hours. Does anyone have any info on this reset thing they do. I figured maybe I could do it myself if no special tools were required.

Its funny you talk about the sunroof. I had a rattle/squeeking noise i could not pinpoint. When i sat in the back it sounded like it was from the front and vise versa. I took my car to the dealership and had them ride with me.

First they did a bulletin on it and could not find anything. Than they found out that sunroof had a weld broken and that metal on metal was causing the problem. I took my car at 6:45 in the morning and it was kept till the following day. I can post later the exact write up from the dealership. But i never heard my car so quiet.

This is a pic of the work they did....... Click on it for larger version.

Hey thanks chimchim for that information. How long has it been since you had this work done? I also wanted to know if yous till had a copy of the service receipt that you could maybe send me copy of only the section that shows what they refered to this work as? This way when I go to the dealer they might can get it taken care of quicker with out going back to what they did before.

Default tc roof rattles - 4 repairs, no improvement

The last 2 times they said they would consult a Toyota engineer, but never did and tried to handle it internally. They reassembled the roof the last time and it was there for 4 days. I am about to take it back again because like always, a couple months later the rattles come back just as bad. I have tried 2 dealerships and called Scion twice. Any suggestions? I am approaching 30,000 miles and want this fixed before the warranty is up. I have seen in another post that a dealership replaced the entire roof. I wonder if that would work.

There are two sunroof thread on this site that I have posted in.

1. https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...540&highlight=

2. https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...551&highlight=

To save you some reading, my sunroof (06 tc, 10K miles, 6 months oldish at the time) would stop closing sometimes, and when open it would rattle alot while driving (the glass seemed to rattle).

My roof was replaced under warranty (1st time in). I haven't had a problem since.

When I take it to the dealership, they make me feel stupid, as if it is normal for a sunroof to rattle and creak all the time even after so many repairs and since the car was like 4 months old. The frustrating thing is the Scion people seem really concerned, but when I bring it to the dealership, they act like I'm wasting their time.

Should I keep pursuing this? I had this problem since the beginning and I don't think a new car should constantly rattle (I realize it's not new anymore, but I have had the problem from the beginning). What would you recommend I do? I think I should get a new roof because the more they mess with the existing roof, the worse it'll get.

The Scion people tell me each time I call that they will have a field engineer go out and look at the car, but each time the dealership says they know exactly what it is and never consult with the engineer. How can I resolve this? Have I exhausted all possible solutions? What was the name of the dealership you took you car to? Did you have to contact Scion?

Thanks,

Matt

I'd try a different dealer if I were you, or deal directly with Scion and have them tell you where to bring it so field engineer can look at it.

I used Ira Toyota/Scion in Manchester, NH. They did not contact Scion as far as I know, I dropped it off, they looked at it, and ordered a new roof. The process of getting the parts and stuff took a few days.

I had a mysterious rattle also, so I opened my trunk and heard all kinds of noises... I guess there is ice inside my spoiler
