Default Common for used tC's to be fairly cheap?

I've been looking around on autotrader and what not for my tC that I'll be getting in the near future, and I've noticed there's quite a few of people selling their 06 and 07 tC's for about $10,500~ all with under 10,000 miles to them.

Just curious as to why they were going for that price, considering the small amount of mileage they have.

Thanks for any responses.

you might want to ask the seller why. They would be able to answer that question better then anyone esle.

the seller may lie to you still unfortunately. It's most likely crashed and then repaired..... most of the time if it's too good to be true, it usually is.

used tC's generally go for near what a new one does, they hold value very well. If its to low you better ask what is wrong with it and get it looked at by a mechanic before buying.

I think you can save some money buying a repaired tc, as long as you test drive it and inspect it first.

Yeah that's what I've seen as well.

When I first saw the thread title I was like wtf, because around here used tC's go for just as much as new ones cost. I've seen some with 5K to 10K mileage going for $17K plus easy. It is such a hot car right now, people are stupid and willing to pay the money.

I was actually looking at getting a used one, since I hate the '08 changes, but I'm going to stick with getting a new one anyway, because it's not worth it to get a used one IMO if it is priced as high as brand new '08.

It might have been in an accident. Spend $40 on a COMPLETE vehicle history report. Dont cheap out on that and end up with something that might end up costing you thousands down the road. Dont assume its a clean car even if the title shows clean. A way to change your title from salvage to clean is by taking it to different state to repair it, then registering it in a new state. This process will clean the title and you can be stuck with a scammed car.

Alright, thanks for all the responses guys. I too thought something had to be a little fishy, because like you guys I saw most used tC's with 30k miles and less go for around $15k-17k most of the time, and I've only seen maybe 3 tC's with less than 15k miles go for around the $10,000 mark.

I'll be sure to email the sellers of the cheaper tC's and see what they tell me, then whichever person seems the most honest I'll most likely go through with them and a Carfax report.

Thanks again!

Actually, I just read more into the car details section, and I realized that the three cars that were in that price range all had "salvaged title" included. Is that something I should steer away from?

nah, you should go check them out. at least the titles are telling you what you could expect. maybe they'll be some good deals on the cars.

Just wondering (I'm a first time car buyer), if I get a Carfax report on the two cars I'm interested in, would that show ALL the history on the car? or just from the state it's currently in? (CA)

Carfax doesn't show everything. My last car was rear ended twice, the second time bending the frame and causing over $7k in damage. I claimed insurance and had the repairs done from the dealership but nothing ever showed up on Carfax when I sold it. You need to take it to the dealership for a thorough exam, they can spot repairs easier.

But to answer your question, Carfax does show history from all states, not just the current one.

Cool, thanks for the reply. I'll be sure to check out these cars thoroughly myself before I think about taking it to the dealership, just to see if there is/isn't anything painfully obvious.

CarFax does show stuff from all states.

CarFax only shows stuff that's been reported.
That means, I can get into many as accidents as I want, pay for it privately, and it'll never show up on CarFax.

You should get the car checked out by a reputable mechanic, because CarFax isn't 100% reliable.

There's an '06 on a lot near me for $17,700. I kind of cringed when I looked up the Blue Book on mine. So at that price, even though it's from a Private Seller might make me want to do quite a bit of research on the vehicle before hand.
