Default Couple of issues with purchase of a new TC. Help!

I have a couple of issues with a purchase of a new tc. Out of the three cars I am considering, the tc is by far the best looking. I also own an xb and have been very happy with my purchase. Here are my problems with the tc.

Gas mileage. It is fair, but I have seen people complaining that they don't even bring in 20. That is almost as bad as my old Land Rover SUV. I think a car like this should be very capable of bringing in the mid 20's at least.

Interior. I think the xb interior is superior to the tc. I don't know if it is the cheezy cover for the radio, or the overall feel, but it seems cheap to me. Any ways to make the interior look a little nicer? I have read that rattles are common too.

One thing that drew me to the xb was its popularity before coming to the states, and thus its strong history. The tc really does not have this, as far as I am aware.

I would like to buy the tc but these things have been on my mind. I am also considering a honda fit, or a civic because of gas mileage, practicality, and safety.

Thanks!

the tC has no history overseas, becuz it was created for USDM market, unlike the xB which had been out overseas for awhile

You should get considerably more than 20mpg with the tC. Most of my customers tell me they get between 27-32 depending on how aggressive you drive.

As for the interior, it is what it is, but imo, it is of higher quality than the xB.

As far as rattles go, every now and then we get someone come back in complaining about some rattles, but not much more frequently than on any other car we sell.

Good luck to you!!

I have the OEM CF dash kit which is 100% better than without it.
No rattles.
Mileage is normally 25-28 here, mostly crappy city traffic. On the wide-open freeway, I get ~30mpg.

Great car. I agree with the interior "feeling" - I don't like the "ricepaper" dash top.
But, I got the leather interior, and it's WAY nicer.

the tC is a nice car look wise but MINE has alot of faults...

well i average 20.5 mpg almost everytime, and i drive on the fwy most of the time. ive took it in numerous times to get it fixed but they say nothings wrong. i love the interior, however the dash is nice, but i plan to redo it in suede or something ot make it look nice. also the stock suspension sucks...its way too high. also ABS is a biotch

how is that possible. I get at least 26 mpg and it is the dead of winter here in WI. I drive partial hwy, partial city. I have no clue how you are getting 20-21. That sucks

sammyman: sounds like you already do not like the tC. I suggest looking at another car. If you do get a tC, you won't be happy. For the $$$, the tC just can't be beat. Yes, my tC does have some minor issues (2 rattles; 1 in the hatch and 1 in the interior next to the latch that pops the hood.). I'm just waiting for my next free oil change from my dealer to have the rattles looked at. The good definitely outweighs the bad. About MPG, I get about 26 in the city and about 33 on the highway. Other factors (mods) will change the MPG also.

I cannot agree about the interior looking cheap. I like the unique covering of the dash and the silver accents. I have about 5400 miles on my 06 and it's solid as a rock, with no rattles. I average about 25 mpg in a mix of city/highway driving.

The tC may not have a long history, but it's based off the European Toyota Avensis, which has a longer history. Also, it has the Camry 4-cylinder that has been around for years.

I drive city very short distances(4-7 miles) warm up my car each time and drive like a jackass and get 21.6. When I drive normally I get 24-25mpg

i totally dissagree about the interior. i think it is far superior than the xb's. i love how the AC controls are digital, and theres not a lot of ***** like the xb. also the CD door comes in handy if u ever install an aftermarket deck or navi. u can use it to cover it, so no one steals it. the interior in the xb is hella cheap compared to the tc. especially those sun visors (that dont even have mirrors!) and i hate how the shifter and cupholders are mounted right onto the floor. looks gross. and the doors and really light and cheap, giving u a lot of road noise, unlike the tc. u get the feeling its an economy car, but when u sit in the tC, u cant tell is only costs $16,800. just my 2 cents!

I love my tC.

Regarding gas mileage. My previous car was a '93 Cavalier 5-speed and I was getting around 35-42mpg depending on how I drove. Yea, it was a bit of a hit in the walled when I first bought the tC, but you get so much more power. Anytime you need power, you can hit the pedal and it is there ready to pull.

The interior is great. I love my interior. Of course, I have the RS1 seats, but I still love everything. I always close the radio door when I leave my car even though it is just the stock deck. Plus, it is fun to crank the music when you pick someone up and ask them to turn down the music. I love watching them search for the stereo. The center console is very convenient with push button fan controls and the aluminum **** for temp.

The tC may not have a history overseas, but it is still strongly supporded despite its recent introduction into the market. If you look through any tuner magazines, you will find parts for tC's. Almost every mag has at least a picture of some tuned tC and most of them have full articles on various modded ones. Only on the market for 2 years and they already have a STRONG aftermarket following. I think that says something about the car.

Of course, it is your money, but I have never regretted buying the tC. I love the car and so does everyone that rides in it and sees it.

I have no rattles..I average about 340miles per tank with about 80% of that highway.

If you're getting 20mpg...I'm curious about your driving style. If the vehicle was running rich you'd have a CEL on.

I'd also have your tires rebalanced and have an alignment done. If your toe in is too far off your vehicle has to work harder to go the same distance. IE..more gas. Also if your balance is off it takes more energy to keep that object moving as well.
