Cutting weight on tC
#42
I dont race anybody if i have a passenger... i always drive alone... that saves a lot of weight.... another option.... go anorexic... youll be surprised how much ur own weight affects the car....but seriously like many people said before, it is a lot cheaper and easier to go faster by adding parts... not replacing them. I wouldnt suggest driving without glass, gas or seats.... thats just ridiculous

Bah.... Where's Rick when you need him RAAMaudio!!!! Come in here....
Let me PM him.... He most probably has the lightest tC out of us all and can tell you what is heavy and what isn't...
The back seat assembly is fricken heavy.... but, those little things are not going to get the result for effort/sacrifice compared to power mods...
RICK?????

for wheel weights it's really hard to beat Wheel Weights.Net
It's surprising that Motegi makes a 14lb wheel in 17" for the tC. I'm all about form follows function, but I don't know if I trust the manufacturer on this one. Another reasonably priced wheel is the 5Zigen FN01R-C at 16 lbs 17" wheels. For any more specific stuff that database is pretty good, it doesn't have everything, but it's a really good start
I'm really looking into getting the tC instead of the Corolla XRS I have on order, but the Corolla weighs in at ~2500lbs. One significant weight savings I've seen from how y'all have modded this car would be replacing the glass roof. The enormously lowered center of gravity from that would be a boon for handling. The Lancer Evo VIII MR I believe did this, with only a 8.8lbs!!! weight savings and it really helped the handling a lot. I'll have to pop in my Best Motoring DVD to review those figures on their handling circuit.
One other thing for weight that I noticed is that the 2.4 engine has dual weight balancers in it. The Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec-V has a similar set up and those guys are REMOVING them for a a good amount of power recovery. I'm not sure I'd go to that extreme of a level (well, okay, maybe) but they are gaining about 10hp because of the rotational motion. On the SE-R Spec-V it's only a few pounds, but it's spinning at full motor RPM, not wheel RPM. So it can be a huge weight savings...
just some random thoughts that I thought I'd toss out...
