i was reading that the tC is one of the few cars out there that can withstand 4.6 times its own weight, for the roof crush test. Only a couple out there right now that are that high. VW was higher at 4.8 times its own weight.

That means the tC at 3000lbs X 4.6 = 13,800 lbs of force BEFORE it will crush TWO INCHES!

Can you imagine the force of this other car? I know it wasn't a roof crush test, but goes to show you the strength of its frame! I am amazed at how safe the tC is. Everytime you see a crash, the tC owner is alive and maybe banged up but not paralyzed! We may joke about the tC being "heavy" but look at this accident and the comment was right it's as REAL WORLD AS IT GETS! and reinforces that the tC is safe!

Glad to see the driver of the tC survived. Sad to hear that the driver of the Maxima died 2 days
before his daughter's 1st birthday! That totally sucks.

That is very sad to listen to. Guy had a kid and all. 79 mph head on crash! I am shocked that anyone was alive. But this was one of the reasons I wanted the tC, its safety rating.

79mph head on to a car traveling 60,now imagine they both at some point hopefully hit the brakes to slow down to some lower speed, but that is still gonna be huge force to stop both cars dead in their tracks like that.........very sad.

I do feel very safe in the tC though......really is a well made car.

Ok we get it, the Scion essentially saved the man;s life, but whats more important to me is thee gentleman who died, leaving behind a wife and baby who was to have her birthday in Thursday. Thats horrible.

Remember these cars save lives until you do things like put in aftermarket seats and steering wheels that don't have airbags.

05-07 tC's didn't have side curtain airbags standard and i wouldn't want the car without them, thankfully they are standard now, they were a 895$ upgrade back then, which was basically mandatory as far as i'm concerned.

Carter's tan Nissan Maxima was going about 80 mph when it struck a silver Toyota Scion, which was traveling about 60 mph, authorities said.

Really? That's what bugs you? It is a Toyota, can't really hold that against them. More people will recognize Toyota than Scion as well.

uhm...did you read the article? the accident was caused by a nissan maxima making an illegal u-turn and driving the wrong way into oncoming traffic. the maxima was going 80 mph, the scion was going 60. no error on part of the scion driver.

I watched on the news last night and they said they collided at a combined 140 mph .

I hope the surgery is successful and the scion owner recovers. He was still in critical condition as of last night.

i guess...
if he wanted to kill himself he should of thought of a better way instead of that.
but obviously someone with a death wish isn't in the state of mind to have concern for others

Has anyone lost their life in a tC yet? I've seen some gruesome wrecks on the internet and it looks like the tC driver always survives (Thankfully).
