Default Dealership Sucks

just wanted to say the dealership sucks for just about everything. Well i was wondering just how many of you have had their power steering fluid drained and refilled and at about how many miles?

Dealerships vary from location to location. Some of them are cool and some of them are dicks. Not much you can do about that - unless you want to contact Scion Corporate and report shady practices at your particular dealership. Don't know how much they'll care though.

As for the power steering fluid... I doubt you really need to flush it very often. I haven't looked at my maintenance schedule recently, but I don't think it's mentioned anywhere in at least the first 40k miles.

Any reason you're considering it?

well im here at the dealership now getting my oil changed cause its free forever or i would do this myself and save myself two hrs of my life but since the last two oil changes they have been trying to get me to pay $100 to flush and change my power steering fluid and i thought it was wierd that i would REALLY have to do this now only at 27,500 miles

Are they saying there's something wrong with it? Like did something get in it or is it dirty or something? If not, I wouldn't bother.

Ask them to see the maintenance schedule and see if it's listed on there.

Tell them that's how you like it...

Not sure... you could ask to see it, but I doubt it would get "dirty" after less than 30k unless something else is wrong (bad cap? or line problem?). I have 44k+ on mine and haven't touched the power steering fluid.

see and thats what i told the guy right now. I was like ive had another coupe and never replaced that fluid for about 50 to 70k miles. He was like "oh well im not sure why but its dirty and i highly recommend it being flushed" I was thinking in my head sure dude! but i thought that if it really needs to be replaced so soon then there is something wrong with the car and therefore my warranty better cover that ____ and they should replace the fluid their damn selves.

The car I just sold for my tc had 134,000 miles on the original power steering fluid. I'm not saying that's a good thing, but the system never caused any problems. I've never heard of having to change the fluid at that early stage. I'm very skeptical . . .

If it really needs changed I'd try doing it yourself for much cheaper.

Just sounds like the tactics that Jiffy Lube and those other oil service places use... "oh we think you should do this that and this other thing while you're here."

FYI... the service advisor's (the guy you talked to) typically don't know much about cars. And they are there to sell you services to make the dealership money. It's business... you gotta expect they are going to try to sell you something, because the service advisor's work of commission as well (not just sales people). so basically if you know your ish, and know about what your car really needs, and you can check to see if your fluids are dirty (power steering is extremely easy to check... just remove the cap and look), then you can kindly deny whatever services they are trying to sell you. i had mine flushed a little before 40k, but thats because i changed the OEM tank out for the MMW tank, and i couldnt clean all the dust out of the MMW tank, and i didn't want it going though my PS pump.

Not all services and maintenance items are listed in your maintenance book, such as the power steering flush (i recommend 40-50k), auto tranny flush (i recommend 50K), coolant flush (100k... then every 50k after that), etc.

Just a Remix of the good old bait and switch... You didn't think any Stealership would let you get out hassle free without trying to make a buck - lol I'm surprised they didn't also tell you need your tires rotated every 1,000 miles.

exaaactly...unfortunately, it happens, especially at the dealership that will never again touch my car after denting it and denying responsibility and stealing my bluetooth headset from the glove compartment and denying responsibility....but hey, SOME dealerships are good right? lol, maybe the front guys can be cool, but you can never trust the techs, there is always one that will screw his own mother over for a buck.

this is true to an extent. their are good dealerships and bad ones. you just need to find the good ones in your area. i trust thompsons service team (i used to work at the dealership), mostly one tech who typically is the only one who touches my car.

but overall yes. service is just like sales. if you don't know what your doing when you go to purchase, the salesmen (in this case its the service adviser), will bend you over and take advantage of you

i hate the dealer.... when my tc went in for the first time, i was getting the full service, and my alarm and led lights put in (under dash).when we got it home, everything was nice and cool. about 3 months later, one of my bros friends kicked the light and it fell off. so me being me i fix it. but what do i notice? THE IDIOT DRILLED 2 HOLES RIGHT NEXT TO EACH OTHER!!! so i fixed that, everything is ok. about 4 days ago after my dad did the install for the exhaust he sees the front tire. THEY NEVER ROTATED THEM!!!! so my dad got ____ed off. 2 days ago, my bro takes it in and they recommended just getting new tires since they were dead. as of now, im not sure if they rotated them cuz i havent seen his car for a while. *Sorry for threadjacking, just relating how the dealer sucks*

Yes, there r stealerships. it is those places that give the rest of us a bad name. if ur power steering fluid needs to be changed @ 27k miles, then there is something wrong with the system. if u want to know whether they should be replaced, look at them. ur steering fluid should be yellowish, trans fluid should be pinkish, and so on. if these fluid r turning brown or other colors then they probably need to be changed. these fluids r dirty and can shorten the components life. if ur not happy with the service, take it up withthe service mgr. if ur still not happy, take it somewhere else until u find the right service dept. some dealerships care more about the bottom line than their satisfaction scores. we r all not bad dealerships. to prove it, i went to work @ the one where i was a customer for almost 10 years.

power steering fluid is the easiest to fix........got Sears and get a fluid removal pump.......they have them in the Lawn and Garden dept.....fro $9.99........get a bottle of the correct fluid at Napa for like $3.00...........pump out the old fluid.........fill with new and should be good to go...........do it every 40-50 thousand miles if needed...........todays pumps will not were out easily........and the fluid is a lot better than it was 20 years ago too........
