Disappointed with transmission
My manual doesn't shift smoothly at all. It seems to resist going into most gears at a decent speed, especially 3rd. I hate it...any problems with you guys?
Nope... only issue I could think of is getting it into 1st or R occasionally... but I believe that's partially b/c they aren't synched like the others.
If you're having major issues getting into 3rd or other gears (and you're actually using the clutch
)... you should probably have the dealer check it out.

Reverse does not have a syncro, and 1st gear is locked out when you are over a certain speed so you don't accidently blow your transmission. If you have trouble getting into reverse, just hop into 1st they go back to Reverse. Or just double clutch it into Reverse.

I haven't gotten mine yet but the car I test drove had no problems whatsoever.
However, my SRT had a problem very similar to yours that's just been fixed today. The clutch pivot arm has a pivot ball on the end opposite the slave cylinder, and it broke. Because of this the throwout bearing would not depress the clutch correctly and it wouldn't disengage. Just a thought. I doubt it's your problem because the car is new, mine happened at 28k miles.
The reason I mention this is the symptoms you describe--though slightly vague--are very similar to mine. The car would not go easily into reverse or first, and then third became a problem as well. Gradually it got to the point where shifting at all was impossible. Other possible problems are the slave cylinder and air in the clutch lines.

okay, I don't mean to ramble, but I've had the car for a year now and while I've gotten used to the way the car drives, I'm still not too happy with the shifting. I think this problem is most directly related to the drive by wire and potentiometer(?) on the accelerator.
EG. If you apply a slight amount of pressure to the gas pedal you get no response. And if you blip the pedal, your tachometer hesitates before the rpms climb.
I've noticed that while I'm driving occasionally I shift, I feel like I'm applying pressure to the gas pedal, but I look at the tach and its still falling!!! I start to try to slowly apply pressure but the rpms still don't rise. I finally have to really step on the gas to the the rpms up high enough and basically jump into gear. One way I've found to counteract this is to match revs to the cars speed by blipping the throttle up to about 3000 (depending what gear I'm in) then letting out the clutch. But I know this causes excess wear on the engine/tranny/clutch.
It just seems like the pedal isn't responding to slight pressure--its so hard to slowly open the throttle in this car! In first, I can either launch the car, tires spinning, or I can slowly bounce the car forward till I hit 2nd. Its nearly impossible get going smoothly.

yea iv had my xb for about 3 weeks now and i was kind of dissapointed in the shift department too. I usually shift at 3k rpm. I agree with audiobahntc. I know you all have tc's but iv noticed the same with the xb. Getting the car going in first is a problem. Maybe its because the car is so freaking slow lol, its hard to even tell im moving.
I have a hard time getting into all gears. Not to hard, but the stick definaly doesnt slide into gear.
I always make sure my cluth is as far as possible to the floor. Dont know, maybe I dont have any tranny fluid =P

This isn't my first stick car and it's impressed far more than my Saturn does. Don't underestimate Saturn there - their transmissions are the best [out of all American cars I've driven :D]
But all the same, I also drove an RX8 once and an Integra with an aftermarket shifter and the tC is better than both of those. The Integra was kind of a misnomer though, I can't imagine a stock Integra being that clunky. The RX8 was a big dissapointment but it was a used car. Who knows? The tC has impressed me thus far..

I grind going into second sometimes when Im speed shifting, this only happened after I installed my TWM, Im blaming it mostly on driver error though. best shifting tranny Ive ever drove was my old SE-R (B13) with a short shifter and ACT clutch. That clutch was AWESOME!
