Default DIY: tC HID Install!

Didnt know where to put this DIY so I put it here. Its basically for the tCs, don't know about the others.

I just installed my HIDs I got from Techone here. They are 10000K. Here are the pix:

1. Unscrew the stock bulb by turning the bulb base to the right on bith sides. Pull it out of the housing and unplug the harness from it and put the bulb somwhere where it won't get broken. That is the back of the headight housing when the bulb is removed!! You will end up with something like this:

2. Once you have the bulb out get your HID bulb and put that bulb in the same way you took out the stock bulb but turn it to the left to tighten the bulb in the base of the housing. CAREFUL NOT TO TOUCH THE HID BULB otherwise it will get oil from your hands on it it will not work!! This is also the back of the headlight housing when the bulb is replaced!!!Once the bulb is in you will have this:

3. Now to connect the wires to the stock harness. You have two leads with spade connectors on it one red and the other black. Take those spade connectors and plug them into the stock harness. If you hold the plug like in the pic then the red goes on the rigt and the black goes on the left. There is a certain way they need to go in order for it to work preoperly, push the spade connectors in and they should click in there so they don't fall out while driving!. Heres the pic:

4. Now that is done. Take your remaining wires and plug them into your ballast, thats pretty much straight forward there, no pic for that.

5. Thats the end of the install. There is no need to adjust them they are pretty straight and level. Here are pix of mine:

Enjoy!! If there are any questions feel free to ask!!

Sorry to say this but those first three pictures suck. You have no frame of reference as to where things are. Try zooming out more so that we can see the whole pic. Thanks.

actually the third pic is just showing the wire harness of where the spade connectors go so if you fon't know where the harness is there is something wrong. But I'll try and get better pics of the first two its kinda hard when there is a fluid reservoir in the way.

If you don't have anything nice to say don't say it at all. I am was just being a nice person and trying to help others out that are not that familiar with doing things like this. There is not many steps to take to install HIDs its just a matter of taking the stock bulb out and putting the HID bulb in and conecting the ballast to the bulb. The instructions that come with the HID system are not geared toward the car that you own. This is for the tCs so it makes it a little more clear to others doing this mod. Like I said before, if you have nothing nice to say don't say it at all!

I will try and get better pics of the first two pics showing the back of the headlight housing so it makes it a little more clear to people what they are looking at and doing.

If you gonna do it, do it the right way. It is illegal to install it like that without a projector. This topic has been discussed numerous time.

See what maximus has done.

I have had HIDs for the past 3 years on two of my cars and was never stopped for them! So I don't care about the illegeal situation. And for the people that don't like the way I did my DIY then don't use it, make one up yourself! I wanted 10K because the ones I had before I got the tC I couldnt see anything with them. AND yes they are HIDs they have the ballast and the bulb is totally different than the stock ones. I don't understand the comment of it not being HIDs they are HID bulbs in a stock headlight??? What do you think HIDs are??? If you don't know what you are talking about then don't comment!

And no its not illegeal to install them that way. All newer cars like the Nisaan Maximas all have the bulbs in a housing witout a projector. It was that way when my mother had her 2002 Maxima. I hate projector lights my Tiburon before the tC had projector lights and the beam pattern was horrible, couldnt see anything in front of me even with HIDs.

If you nothing NICE to say then don't say it at ALL!

HID = High Intensity Discharge

our Stock bulbs are Halogen

here's the difference.

Not hating, just wanted to clarify. Good job on your first How-to

First of all, these are real HIDs. yes. i will agree to that. (hell, ill do these myself in the future with ~5000k)

Second (and no offense), this mod IS illegal. "newer cars like the Nissan Maximas" came from the factory with HIDs already installed, therefore are not illegal, even though they don't have projector housings. whether or not OEM HIDs are used with OEM projector housings or not has nothing to do with the legality of the use of HIDs.

Thirdly, the projector lights in your Tiburon sucked with HIDs sucked because they were designed to project normal bulb beam patterns, not the pattern emmited from the HIDs. if you look closely at both bulbs, the filament in the "normal" bulb is quite smaller than the gas-space (filament equivalent) of the HID bulb. therefore, the HID bulb WILL suck on a projector not meant for HIDS. point: not all projectors are made alike. some are meant for HIDS and others are meant for regular bulbs.

if anyone wants, i'll produce official documentation proving second (and maybe third) point.

im sorry if i offended anyone with this post. just constructive criticism. and no i do not think your DIY sucked. just needed better picture angles and focus is whack.

i agree. if negative comments just have to poop out, lets at least follow with constructive commenting or a generic "no-offense".

Jasonbegin - I never said I got 10K to get more light, I never stated why I got them, so don't come to conclusions to what I am talking about. Who is the loser now?

Poison, JustAnotherAsian and SSM_tC thanks for giving me credit and I didnt take any offense to what you are pointing out JustAnotherAsian. I just don't like haters that don't contribute to anything and just hate on others for doing something good for the Scion community.

I will get night time pics up hopefully tonight when I get home I am going to be taking them right now while I am at work.

My personal thoughts on this thread have nothing to do with this... but this needs a cleanup. I'll leave the constructive ones though.

Keep it clean and friendly guys... or I'll be back...

Thats the way it is supposed to be hooked in its not a harness that plugs into the stock harness. If you have ever done this then you would know.

I havent mounted the ballasts yet, still deciding on where to put them. Right now they are just sitting in a nice tight spot so they won't go anywhere.

Here are the night shots, I got a few and yes its hard to get night shotsin front of the car without it being blurring.

ack154 - Thanks for cleaning up this mess!
