Default does the tC stand for toyota Camry?

Not sure if this has been discussed before but, I was wondering why they called our cars a Scion tC... and since it is basically a redressed toyota camry, I wonder if thats what the tC stands for... or maybe they just thought it sounded better then the xC. Anyways, it was just in my head.

I was wondering the same thing. Makes sense if it does. But the car is based on the Avensis and not the Camry. The main components borrowed are the 2.4L engine and the transmissions.

I love the Camry... but our car is hardly a dressed up camry. The platform was based on the avenesis, the engine is the same as a camry, and the tranny is a redesigned Camry 5 spd. The car in no other way resembles a camry. I think there are tons of guesses as to what the tC stands for (they couldnt use xC because it was being used by volvo (?) I believe), but many say it stands for touring coupe. Of maybe they just picked two letters to make everyone guess

In the realm of the Toyota group the SCION vehicles were designed for the X generation, boy were they way off. In development the models were referenced as A, B and C, who would have thought. Thus the names appeared X”A”, X”B” and the X”C” was already being used by Volvo, so the change to T”C” for touring coupe.

The Scion manager at the dealership said the exact same thing

Another possible name was to add an 'x' behind the 'tC' and you have 'xtC'... get it?

That ecstasy comment is inappropriate for SL.com.
