Default Dropped something...how do I get it out?

Today I took off the HVAC portion to do something with my radio headunit. As I was trying to take out the plastic part that holds the headunit, I dropped one of those screw driver attachments on top of the plastic by accident, and it rolled and fell all the way down. I have no idea where it is...does anyone know how I can get that out?

okay i saw this on scooby doo once. take a bunch of pieces of straw and hook them together and stick a huge piece of gum on the end. im sure bazooka works the best. stick it down in there and pull it out!

but in all seriousness its probably somewhere deep behind all that stuff.

Yeah, I put my hand all the way in and tried looking for it, but couldn't find it.

start taking things apart till you find it. or just say screw it and go buy a new one. I do installs for a living and if I drop a bit or something thats not expensive I look for a second and if I can't find it I leave it. Takes too much time to find a little bit when you have no clue where is fell to.

Well I don't care about the attachment I dropped; I just don't like the idea of having a tiny little metal piece roll around somewhere in my car when I'm driving.

If anyone's wondering, it's one of these things:

there's doughnut (for lack of better explaination) shaped magnets ... tie them to a fishing line, or some strong-ish string of sorts, and drop it down where you dropped whatever you dropped. wish luck you'll find it.

I have a thin fiberglass line with a magnet on the end for such occassions. Can't tell you how many times I've dropped a socket or screwdriver tip and had to fish it out like that.

If its too far you just won't find it, so to be honest, I wouldn't even bother.

That sounds pretty good. I'll try it tomorrow during the day, and if it doesn't work out, I guess I'll just leave it in there.

Yeah, but it was one of those that attach to the tip of those multi-use screwdrivers.

I dropped a screw inside the hatch lid. I really want to get it out, but a magnet on a string will be useless because the entire area is made of metal. I bought a new screw, but I wish I could get the old one out.

yeah seems like a lot of metallic parts for the magnet to work..sucks knowing that there's a little thing rolling around your car somewhere when you're drivng.

yeah... that's why you don't use a magnet on a string..

you use a magnet on a stick... that way you can wiggle the magnet around and hope that the thing sticks to it when you pull it back out.

thinking it's wedged between the carpet and the floor there... i've dropped a few things down there before... but it's more time consuming than difficult to find and retrieve them really

It's called a telescoping magnetic tool. The thing that looks like a cylinder is called a socket. And the thing you hold in your hand is called a ratchet. I know because I use them everyday at work.

I dropped one of the 10mm nuts that holds the HU bracket in. I found it under the driver side carpet, 8 months later when I did this:
