Can anyone give me a link to a site that sells this kit in black? All of my local auto parts stores (and Walmart) only have yellow, red and white. I did a search and all I found was 500 threads of people asking the same three questions.

If you want them done in black just use some high heat black paint. It doesn't have to be Duplicolor caliper paint. Plus you can choose from flat, semi-gloss or gloss.

 

^^Yeah, I used engine enamel for mine.

 

Yeah, If she wants black why not use some BSP straight outta the can with a brush. I've used car paint on engines before. It's quite heat resistant and glossy too.

 

Hey, glad I found this thread, I was just talking with a friend about painting calipers today. Has anyone used and/or can anyone recommend this kit? It looks pretty easy but does the color stay on and do the colors come out looking nice or sorta dull? (if the pictures on the link posted are any indication, it looks like a very very flat light blue)

 

It looks ok in the beginning but will chip after awhile plus the brush will leave bristles in the paint. Better off just using some high quality engine paint in a spray can. Wipe everything down good with brake clean and use aluminum foil to mask off what you don't want sprayed

 

Thanks Jethro, I think I like that idea better. I was having hesitations at the thought of using a brush and getting that "brushed" look to it. Course, who's looking that closely at my breaks? Eh, may as well do it right if you gonna do it though.

Vort3x, I'm game for that. I'm just trying to decide what color... would love to do blue but that kit color blue looked really horrible.

Can someone recommend a blue that matches blue LED's? Sorta sticking to a theme color for my girl... Super White, Blue and the charcoal/black interior.

The only reason my paint's chipped is because i took off the calipers to do my brakes and had them lying on the ground.

If you take care to remove the bristles that fall off the brush and use another, higher quality one, it'll look great.

Mine don't look "brushed on" at all.

 

Mine looks great as well.

I have touched them up since this picture, but only to get the little nooks and crannies. Overall they still look good.

PS they are red but the camera shows orange.

 

you need to detail those rotors and wheelwells too. YUCK

 

^^What do you use to detail them?

 

For the rotors I use the same paint I did on the rotors. The wheelwells get cleaned with simple green then get tire dressing.

 

Does it make a big diff when you sanded the caliper real good ?? The other tutorial on the xA/xB forum, that guy didn't sand his caliper at all. It looks like it's gonna take a long time to sand 4 caliper

 

You don't have to sand the calipers.... you clean them using the cleaning spray and a wire brush or toothbrush.
