I knew the ABS part as well, but EBD is something I'd never heard claimed before. Could you say that EBD is just an enhanced ABS feature?

 

More or less.... People think of the idea of ABS as the antilock feature, so you need another term to note the added feature.

 

I'm saying this because not all cars have ABS and not all cars have ABS WITH Electronic Brakeforce Distribution. and I consider it an extra feature, most other car sites will mention it in the specs, scion does not.

 

EBD only kicks in when ABS kicks in, right? Cuz a lot of the time when I brake, the car pulls to the side. EBD would get rid of that, right?

 

^^ the EBD should be taking care of that.....but you may have an aliignment or balance problem.... I'd take it to the dealer to just have it checked out....see if you can get them to reproduce the problem..

 

No. EBD works independent of ABS and what you are experiencing is not normal. EBD keeps more of the braking pressure on the front brakes unless you have more of a load in the back. Toyota has used this system for years on its trucks, but it used to be done by a mechanical valve. It was called a "load sensing proportion valve" and was just a metal arm undreneath the truck that moved when the bed was loaded. It kept you from locking up the rear wheels when the bed was empty. Now, its done electronicaly and is used on all models with ABS.
