it's called... static.

it's your butt rubbing against the seat.

Uh depending on where you live it could be very dry out, no humidity, and you just get shocked. Could be your clothing rubbing on the seats that generates the static.

Yeah I've had this happen in my other cars, but not sure if it's just more or what but I feel like it happens more since I've had my scion tc.

where do you live? here in socal there is a santa ana (desert wind) blowing in. that plus flowers realeasing pollen in the air, which builds up static charge as they brush over your car while you drive, could be causing your static electricity predicament.

here's an idea.. hold the car door (or anything metal of the car) while you get out of the car...

BEFORE you place your foot on the ground.

Just a thought.....
I h8 it when people say that someone should have went to another site or searched on this site for hours to find the info. they need! To a certain extent i understand not wanting 300 threads of the same question. However, I also think that if someone has a car question ASK IT!!!

I get these too - I am used to it though. I like to see the nice little spark at night when I come home when I touch the door

Nice idea, but here's a better idea: When you first get out, before touching anything, try ____ing on a metal part of the car and let us know what happens.

Well, apparently if you stand close enough and have a wide enough... uh... stream, then something will happen.

Here's another possibility: by any chance you wear a uniform/work clothes? It could be the wool content of your clothing (socks, pants, etc.) that's generating the static...not sure about cottons tho..

AS for me, never got a static (yet)

I get them on windy days, and they are especially bad when I wear wool fleece jackets. Sometimes at night, I can actually see the electricity being transferred.
