You might want to pick 'chucksu' brain a bit. He has a really good theory to your question. Try to PM him. He will answer any of your questions.

 I dont know much about the engine swaps. As for the Corolla 1.8L it can be done. Im not sure of the cost & time but its a great deal of both. It was a Company in the UK that cramed one of these engines into a Echo HB, so it is possible. Thats about all I know. You might be able to get more info from www.echodrivers.com seeing they talk more about the echo then we do here. Good luck & it wont be cheap.

A update. As for the company that did it there site is down or they are no longer around. There site was/is http://www.activatech.co.uk/. If you come see any pics of a red Echo 3 Door HB with a big looking engine under the hood it was done by them. I will keep looking for pics but unless some one saved them to there server this is going to be hard

Got to love being a post *****.. Got a little more info. This car:

Has the 1.5L 1NZ-FE as stock trim. You can get a option for the 1.8L 1ZZ-FE or even a option for the 2.0L 1AZ-FSE on that car . Now the thing to think about is that the engine bay more then likely will be bigger so it can fit the 1AZ-FSE with no problems. Now if the engine bay is the same size as the xB, xA, Echo & so on then  why not import a front clip from that car? Its a Toyota Premio. You might want to stick with the 1ZZ-FE idea. Just found out the 1AZ-FSE is a Turbo Diesel engine . If that would fit man that would be sweet. 152ps@6,000rpm & 20.4Kg-m@4,000rpm. So that might be nice be the weight might not be good. Also those are some insain number for a diesel. The ones in america are stuck to 4,000rpm because of government. The gas milage with that Diesel is the same as the 1.5L . Man if I only had a crap load of money I might try some of these when I get a xA.

Yeah thats the car. Now did you resize those pics? or is that googles doing? If not those are way smaller then the originals. The originals I would say was like a 600x400 or so. You could see some good detail. Guess not much can be asked seeing they are hard to find now. I tried yahoo but kept getting this stupid tercel/echo forum that was talking about tercel engine swaps.
