Default Factory subwoofer and access to trunk storage comaprtment

HEY! For those who have the factory subwoofer. How is the enclosure for that, is it easy to install. And most important can u still lift up the floor of the trunk to get to the compartment to the right of the spare time where you can hold things or does the factory sub block that off. Please let me know, thanks!

The enclosure itself fits really nicely, just right in the right hand corner, unfortunately it does block off the compartment underneath, and often times is a pain to take the carpet cover off and put it back in, a little sliding and pulling will remove it and replace it

You can get the spare tire cover out, but you need to release it at the front edge, then slide it out from under the sub. It's not too difficult.

Once you get the hang of it its pretty easy to get to the spare compartment. Especially if the box is correctly installed (mine was originally installed "loose so you could lift it off the carpet" by the service dept.... which is the wrong way. If it is tight against the car, there is a little space beneath it to remove the carpet.

I am looking into better dampening the box and adding a better 10, then adding my own amp on that shelf beneath the spare cover (you can just slide that foam peice out). It is made perfectly to hold an amp. That will give a nice factory look with much better sound if I can get the box to sound right with the new sub.

Well I want to get the factory enclosure, possibly throw a layer of dynamit inside of it, and put in an Alpine Type S 10" sub with an Alpine MRD-M301 into the the compartment where u hold stuff. I test fited it, its so close, like 1/4 of an inch so I plan on shaving the styrofoam and just having it sit there all nice and stuff. But I want able to access my amp if need be. Is it possible to buy jjust the sub box for the factory space, what company makes that box?

I havent tried to get to the spare yet but I should practice. I love how solid the box is and it doesn't take up the whole trunk!

The box is a VSE made by Bazooka, but I don't think they list it on their web page or anything - I think it's through Scion only and nobody has said anything about being able to buy it seperate yet.

They don't just sell the encosure, you have to buy the whole thing. The amp is internal.

I plan on fiberglassing a mock of the bazooka sub enclosure, only not letting it stick so far out into the trunk. My vision is to make it flush with the overhang of the rear fender while also maximizing on volume.

I'll keep you guys posted with pics and stuff. Maybe I can make a box that gives a more flush and nicer look, and more trunk space

That would be really cool if you could do it but it's not going to be easy. It's going to have to be very strong and rigid to be attached at the side of the trunk with a little space underneath like the stock box. It's also going to have to use a very thin sub as there just isn't that much room in there. I'm sure if they had been able to design a good box in less space, they probably would have. All in all, I'd like it smaller but not sacrificing sound quality and all. It really is pretty out of the way.

I think the dealer installed mine the same way. The box isn't flush at the top, there is a slight gap, and I can wiggle the box up and down. How did you fix this? I'm also having trouble removing the grille. There is a little nylon loop thingie on the side. I've pulled on it but nothing happens. Shoud I just keep pulling on it till it comes out? It felt like I was already pulling hard enough and didn't want to break anything.

To remove the grille: grab the blue nylon cord and pull really hard. It will be even more difficult to get the grill lined up and pushed back into position (it will feel like the grille is slightly too big, but it will go in if you push it straight in with a lot of pressure.)

To tighten the sub to the car: remove grille, remove driver. There is one nut towords the back of the car and another on the side close to where the sub port is. Tighten them until the sub doesn't move, but don't go crazy or else you're crack the enclosure.

If you can slide your fingers a little behind the box... it is installed incorrectly. If installed correctly you should be able to move it slightly, just due to the flex of the box... but it should not be loose. They tried to say it was so you could lift it up and slide out the carpet... which makes no since. If the box is tight against the body, there is a gap underneath just enough to slide out the carpet! If it is like mine way, you should not be able to recline the passenger rear seat all of the way. I didnt feel like tearing it all apart because of their mistake.. so i made them re-install it

JasonH, thanks for the info! Mine actually has a black nylon cord but it's the only one I see so I'm sure we're talking about the same one. When I get out of work I will try to remove it and adjust those screws. I just hope the screws are there and the person at the dealer didn't miss them altogether.

engifineer, I can definitely stick my fingers behind the box a little at the top so I know it's installed incorrectly. And if I remember correctly, the seat did bump into the box when I reclined the it. I'm going to try what JasonH suggested.

THANKS AGAIN!
