hey everyone. i've been lurking in these forums for some time and i'm interested in buying a scion tc and i had a question about your purchases. after playing around on local (central fl) scion dealer websites and the scion website, i see these additional "fees":

Delivery, Processing and Handling Fee = $585
Documentation Fee = $699.50

ok, to me, that seems a bit outrageous. $1,285 in fees?? i know that scion tC's get built and shipped from japan, but c'mon, ANOTHER $1,285 just to take the car off the lot? i'd love to take that $1285 and use it to get some mod options instead.

i'm thinking that maybe the dealers put these here to "haggle" with the price of the car a bit to make a sale. can anyone elaborate and share their experience that they've had with these "fees" in buying their tC? i'd appreciate it when going to the dealership and figuring out what the REAL price of the car might be.

Well, I know for myself, we have a $595 destination fee. And then don't forget about registration (for me about, $250) and tax (for me, that's 8.25%).

Right there, it's already over $2200 fees. Granted, I'm leasing, so I don't have to pay the taxes up front, but if you're purchasing, that's the fees.

The "fees" are usually, destination, tax, and wahtever it takes to register your car (car registration, license fees, whatevers)

You can add them into the overall price of the car, but they will get paid. I wish I lived in OR, no taxes. lol

 

well, here in socal the sticking pretty hard to the "prue pricing". I tried to get the $515 (don't ask me why your delivery fee is $75 more or the doc fee we don't have that I don't think). But yeah I feel the same way the DPH and whatever fees are just rip off fees, especially since must car buying experts say you shouldn't pay either. I think it's away for dealers to get more money, why not just include it in the MSRP? then I don't feel as ripped off.

 

First off, im no Scion dealer, but when i bought my tC back in July the $585 Delivery, processing and handling fee was included within the $16,465 "no haggle" price. The Documentation fee is another issue. I didnt have any documentation fee, and from what i've gathered thats a dealership-to-dealership charge and sounds like a bit of B.S. I remember a thread on Doc fees last summer in which people were saying that $100 was too much for these "documentation" fees... Good luck.

 

Anyone know the fees in Tennessee or Alabama? If my dealers take long enough maybe I'll just wait til I get there to get my tC.

Here in the bay area, the documentation fee is about $50. It is the fee they charge to register the vehicle, which is completely legitimate. However, $600++ for a doc fee sound like a big rip off. I suggest that you shop around. If the dealer pull this on you, who know what other scam they may pull?

 

Documentation fees range from dealer to dealer. Here in KC, they range from $79.00 to $299.00. This fee is charged by the dealers to cover the costs associated with titling, taxes,filing all the paperwork for your car. Again, this fee ranges depending on the dealership

 

My delivery/Handling/Processing was $515

That Doc fee sounds like a rip-off, but it may be normal in your area-

olsonm, yes, i see what you mean. after playing around with the zip codes and dealers, some charge no documentation fees, and some are as high as $699. the lowest in my area, central florida, is still $499. does anyone know if there is any "play" for this fee? ie, will the dealer take it down some or will they remove it completely to make a deal or is this absolutley necessary?

i have to laugh because they have this "pure price" crap all of their website, yet they still want to stick you with delivery fees/documentation fees when it's all said and done...

 

I bought my tC in central florida at courtesy, i ordered it the first week they had came out and i was charged the $585.00 delivery fee but it was already included in the price. my car was a 5-spd and i payed $16,515 + $599.00 Dealers fee that i could not get them to go down on, had i waited i possibly could have but i just wanted the car, i didnt care about saving a hundred bucks!
and also look real close to how much there charging you for parts and make sure your not getting F'd.

i would recommend David Maus toyota talk to Chris Nekauda, he's a friend of mine and he drives a real tight black xB!

 

haha. thanks zac. that's exactly what i needed to know. and david maus is the one charging $699 for the documentation fee. just seems like a waste of $$$. i'd rather take that money and get the trd exaust and fog lamps!

 

My doc fee was $35 when I bought my car... no sales tax either. Total price out the door for my car was $16,500 even.

 

goodness, with all these extra "fees", it'd be cheaper for me to buy a plane ticket to MT, buy the car there and drive it back to florida!

 

I actually bought my car in Spokane WA (there is 1 Scion dealer in MT and I wouldnt reccomend them to anyone), but since it is licensed and registered in MT I didnt have to pay tax (No sales tax in MT). I dont know how it works if you buy a car here and take it elsewhere though...

 

You would have to pay your states sales tax when you register the car in your state-

 

Why are people still complaining about these so-called "hidden" fees. The delivery fee is legitimate being that it's the price they most likely charge for bringing the vehicle state-side. Just about every single car out there has these, some are much higher than $515.

Document/Tax/Title Fees are linked to the individual dealerships based on what state/county they are in and are not determined by Toyota/Scion. NY and Cali residents pay for higher emissions than anyone else. Is that Scion's fault, NO. Stop blaming Scion for fees that are the responsibility of the state in which you live.

Even if Scion decided to sell the car for $20K to give you room to haggle, you would still have to pay these fees. So stop whining and enjoy the car you still got a cheap price.

 

what do you mean "still complaining"? this would be my first new car purchase and i would like to be aware of what these fees are and why/if i have to pay them at all. and imagine someone's shock when they see another $1,300 in unexpected fees when they went to buy their car. my $17,500 car now costs $18,800. do i get anything tangible/additonal for my car out of that? NO. and NO, not all car compaines/dealerships charge fees this high or any fees at all. and i think it's perfectly fair for me to ask these questions and whine if i want to. it is, afterall, my money.

 

delivery fee is part of the 16k pricetag when i bought my tc.

 

Just realized you were from Bozeman, that's awesome, I did some time at MSU, I'm really glad to hear there's at least one tC in Bozeman, maybe them college kids will learn what the heck a nice car is. I think I only saw 1 Benz and 2 BMW's and a Lexus in 4 months over there.

Can't imagine you bought it from Billion or from Resseler either.
