Nice pics - good camera and use of tripod

As for the shorty antennae, I had the same worries (except I don't have mountains here) - you should try the OEM Honda S2000 antennae. It works really well, atleast for me.

 

S2K antenna FTW... my radio doesn't miss a beat no matter where I go around here... works just as well (if not better) as the horsewhip that used to be mounted on my rear fender.

Even while driving thru Carbon Canyon... crystal clear signal...
