Fuel gauge not going down?
I just got my blue '06 Scion tC w/ 5-speed the other day from the dealer. Now the dealer topped off the gas, and it was a 50 mile drive back home. I've driven it probably 10 miles since I got it (still getting the hang of the transmission), and the fuel gauge is still brimming at full. Think there's something wrong here?
I think it's normal to be at or near the full line if the dealer topped off the gas even after a 50 mile jaunt. If you notice when the tC's gas tank is completely full the gauge needle is significantly above the full line. Keep on driving it, it'll go down trust me.
Haha that reminds me, my first car (an old 91 Olds Cutlass), the gauge needle would always get stuck everytime I filled it up so what I'd have to do is load up the car with like 5 people, and floor it over a huge bump or pothole and that would pop it back into place.. haha But I'd never do that with the tC
mine wont move till about 50.
it makes sense. the way a fuel tank measures fullness is by a small object floating on the fuel surface. naturally, this object has a diameter. until the fuel dips below that diameter, your needle wont move. then it goes down irregularly because the tank's shape isn't perfectly rectangular or even.

yeah the needle is above full, but also if the dealer topped it off you could have gas up the filler neck of the gas tank which means your needle won't start to drop until you use up the gas that is in the filler neck
also look how low your feul marker will go at empty. it will look completely empty but when you fill up, its only 12.5 gallons.
Its a gauge and not suppose to be super accurate. Track how much MPG you get and reset your trip meter each time you fill up, you'll have a better indication of my much gas you have left.
