Default Full synthetic oil...Which one...Castrol Edge w/ Titanium or Valvoline SYNpower?

Anyone that uses or has used either one, please share your experiences and your recommendations. Both are in Walmart in the 5 quart jugs. Valvoline is $29, Castrol is $31. I was/am using Mobil 1 Full Synthetic ($27) but I am going to switch it up this oil change due to oil burning. I am using 5w20 in my 07 tC. I am having to put in about 2 quarts between every 5k mile oil change with Mobil 1. Car has 55k on it. No smoking.

If you're having to top of with 2 quarts between oil changes, its the engine that's the problem not the brand or type of oil you are using. Get your engine checked out.

^x2. But regardless, I use Castrol Edge with titanium full synthetic 0w20 year round. No problems, engine runs smooth.

Mobil1. And like the others said, however to burn 1 quart per oil change is about normal. 2 is excessive.

Ive tried about 12 different synthetics on the market. If you want the absolute best around, go with Royal Purple 5w-20. It's a little pricey but the car runs noticeably smoother. I usually only change it about every 8000 miles and I usually only have to add about ½ to ¾ of a quart at 5000miles. I don't think Walmart carries it though, only Autozone.

Using mobil 1 0w-20, I would burn about 1/2 qt per 5k. Switched to mobil 1 5w-20, doesn't seem to burn a drop.

Do you have a turbo? That would help burn oil if your turbo was going out.

It is more like 1.5 quarts every 5k miles, I just rounded it off. I don't have any engine mods. I went with the Castrol Edge with Titanium 5w20. $31 for the 5 quart jug but it is $8.50 a quart when u purchase quarts separately. Car seems to be running smoother already but that's probably just in my head. We will see about the oil burning now in a month or so. Thanks everyone. I def wanna try royal purple one oil change though. Does it matter if you mix synthetics in between oil changes? Probably not recommended I would assume.

Royal Purple is overrated and over priced honestly. Check out www.bobistheoilguy.com for actual oil analysis and what have you. I'd run Rotella is you can find it, or stick to my earlier reccomendation of Mobil1.

I can't tell a huge difference between the brands. I go with valvoline 100k+ synthetic mostly because of the 100k and I like the look of the bottle more.

How does RP make your car run smoother? That's ridiculous.. Just about any oil you purchase these days is more than adequate to lubricate and protect the engine. It will not make the engine run smoother..
If you are into extreme duty , like track use or high rpm's under load, then a premium oil will provide extra shear strength and hold up better under heat.
For the street.. it's hard to find an oil these days that doesn't hold up well in just about any conditions

Switching to mobil 1 5w-20 should get rid of the oil consumption problem. I had the exact same issue, and when I switched weights, it was gone.

Royal Purple is overated and overpriced like spicy said. My tC ran rougher with it. I use Pennzoil Platinum. I am using Napa synthetic currently since i got 2 cases and 2 silver napa filters (for the car) and 2 gold napa filters (for the truck) for $100. haven't had any issues with the Napa oil or filters.

U switched to or from 5w20? I'm already using 5w20. I was thinking of switching to 5w30 but they say to use 5w20 in the 07 tCs plus for the winter the 20 is better than 30. Maybe I will try 5w30 in the spring.

AMSOIL or eneos! i used 0w-20 w/ 5k interval. also, i totally agree with what mike had to say. If you car is running rough, you need to change you oil sooner.

i have used mobil 1 5w-20 and pennzoil platinum 5w-20 and both were good. Im using mobil 1 0w-20 and it has been great. I really like it, seemed to quiet my motor down considerably.
