well, it comes from my father's side, he, his sister and mother speak it (his dad was a us air force stationed in greece when he met my grand ma.) so my dad speaks it, but can't write it, and i don't know if my aunt can either... but my grandma grew up in athens and the tiny island calla amilos.
i know a few words in greek...yaya and papou (grandma and grandpa, it is how i refered to my dad's parents while my mom's were just granpa and grannie), nonah (godmother, which is my dad's sister) then "bah bah" which is informal way of saying father, like dad or daddy.
hmmm...what other words do i know..."unah hah thiese!" (go get lost)
"cah-nah-mu ee-tha porthu" (i think it meant give me a fart or something, it was an inside joke between my sister and yaya)
"te-graphi-et-thou?" what is written here? (my mom would usually say this while pointing at the palm of her hand, she would then say "your buns" it was a warning that i was about to get a spanking.
christos annesti/ allithos annesti (said on greek easter which was last sunday, but i missed it...it means "christ is risen, truely he is risen)
that is about it, yasu (also means goodbye, it is like aloha)
^^^^^hahaha good enough drax.....ever been to Greece? I think your mother's island is Milos not Amilos (never heard of it unless it was a typo) you have greek name?
hahahha there she goes again.....

my name is christian alexander, i am technically like 1/2 norweigen, and then a mixture of greek, italian, german and naitive american, but i identify with the greek side most because i was baptized as christos and grew up going to a greek orthodox church. so sorry, i don't worship the gods of olympus and sacrifice lambs to them...yum... lamb...can't get any all the way out here in frostburg...
so i'm basically a white guy with greek heritage

i have been to greece and milos or amilos(i keep getting confused bcause it always sounds like there is an "a" when i hear family members prounouce it). i was actually baptized in greece, and have only been back there once when i was like 8. my grandparents had an appartment in athens within walking distance to the beach, and then they had a beach house on whatever that island is called nearly right on the beach. walking distance to a small pizzaria (which i didn't like too much because they have a different interpretation of pizza) and an awesome ice cream place down a ways.
only part i hated was my dad was always spear fishing, make me hold an octopus (those freaking suction cups still work even when they're DEAD!) and eat eel (barf!) and they made the whole fridge stink, even milk and juice tasted fishy!
i'd like to go back, but my grand parents sold the apartment and beach house and moved to the us when they started needing more medical visits with better facilities than were avaliable in the us.
