Default Gas

So what kind of gas are you using in your Scion? The owners manual says use 87 octane fWhich is what I have been putting in so far (from SHELL) The dummy daughter used midgrade.

if its so bad, the manufacturer wouldnt recommend using 87, which is what i use too. theres no need to use anything higher unless you're boosted..

Unboosted? 87 is exactly what you need.
Boosted? Start looking for pricey gas.

It should run the same with all grades of gas. Octane levels over 87 will not damage the engine

i use premium 93. only because it's supercharged. since buying it brand new till about 2 weeks prior to supercharging, it was 87 all the way. always from a bp/amoco gas station.

i take issue with you calling your daughter dumb. How are you the PARENT and not instructing your daughter better? If you knew so much about octane, why is it that you're asking us? we could call you dumb as well. I think you need to become the PARENT and help your daughter understand things instead of calling names!

Besides, going from 87 to a tank of 89 does absolutely NOTHING to the car. Except lighten your wallet.

Shell Regular 87 Octane.

The only other non-shell gas in my car came from the very first tank from the dealer.

I hear biofuel is much more efficient and beneficial.

yeah...running e-85 in your tc is great way to ruin your engine since it isn't designed to run on it. vehicles have flex fuel designations for a reason. and the tc isn't made to run on it.

as for bio fuels being efficient. e-85 isn't. you get 25% fewer mpg on a fuel that isn't 25% cheaper than gasoline...so your not getting much benifit at all.

biodiesel is a great one though. if there is anything we aren't short on in american, it is fatty waste kitchen oil and grease to change into bio diesel.

I will admit it runs a bit sluggish with e85 in it, but I like using it because I am helping clean up the enviroment! Everyone says the engine is going to crap out but whatever, i have a warrenty so tooyota pays!

Off topic, but....how do you figure that? E85 uses less dinosaur juice, but that's about it. More accurately, you could say "I like using it because I am helping conserve oil".

also, warranty covers factory defect, not driver idiocy.

the seals that the e-85 will dissolve clearly won't be from factory error, and you'll be stuck with a nice fat repair bill.
