Default Gas on paint

I needed some gas tonight, so I went to local pump and asked the guy to fill me up with 87. That he did and he walked away to help out some other customers. Around 4 minutes later it was still pumping. I knew something was wrong, so I got out and saw gas was going down the side of my car. The guy saw this as well and shut off that pump.

I was angry for two reason, one he owes me ~10 bucks, and two the gas on the paint. He said he could not do anything about the money since his manager will not be on duty till the morning. I said fine and walked to my car. Little did I know I stepped in gas so my whole car smelled like gas now - so I had the windows open going 55 down the parkway (not a good thing considering its 42 out right now). I think the smell has gone away for now.

So when I came home I rinsed that part of my car and washed it with some soap. I can still smell the gas on the paint (a bit anyway)

Do I have to worry about this causing issues with the paint job?

Default Nah

Nah with a little warm water and soap you'll be fine. Just keep rinsing it with warm water and lather it with soap.

Same with Oregon. It's a weird experience if you're a tourist.

This is such an outdated law. NJ and OR need to get with the times. Isn't it a huge waste of money to hire thousands of people just to pump gas? I supposed the cost must get passed onto the consumer. I would be pretty mad if I had to pay a surcharge on my gas just to have someone pump it for me.

That sucks. My Dad always told me to never let gas on the paint b/c over time it can ruin the paint. Im not sure if its going to do damage if you washed it off really quick. Also, wtf is up with that gas law. I wouldnt want others filling up my car.

That is a really strange law. And the gas should just wash right off as long as it didnt sit on there for a long time.

I would recommend putting Mothers Wax in that area, just to add some protection.

Also looks great

gas won't do as much damage as BIRD ____. seriously, if a bird ____s on your car, wash it off asap dont let it sit. it will eat away at clearcoat and you'll be stuck with a nasty chipped spot, looks horrible.

I like it I wont get wet in the rain or freeze in the cold....and I think it would be good to have a this nationwide...would provide more jobs no? but either way it doesnt bother me and is really no big deal lol and gas in nj is generally cheaper than the rest of the nation so suck on thattttt hahah

But back to the topic I dont see a problem as long as you wipe it off and to be safe wash it....
