Default Gasing Up Problem

Hi, I just bought a 07 tC about 3 weeks ago and I've been having trouble gasing up. My fuel is reading half tank and when I go to gas up at the 76 the pump always clicks on me thinking that my car is filled up all the way when it's not. I've tried 2 76 gas stations already and both of them does exactly the same thing. Like today I went to the 76 gas station that I go to regularly and pull up to the same pump I gased up on last week. When I go and put the nozzle in it pumps only a couple of cents in and then clicks! This was the same one I pumped gas in last week so I don't know why it works one day then a while later I go back it's not working. Is it the gas stations problem or should I get this looked at?

when u put the nozzle in do u put it in all the way so that it "clicks" in?? like when u put the nozzle in ur tank does it click out when u let go of it?? cuz if u dont push the nozzle in all the way it will do that click that ur talkin about cuz that happens to me every now and then too. if u r putting nozzle in all the way and it still clicks, then i would get it checked cuz ur gas tank filler tube (<<its not really called that but i wanted to sound technical LOL) might be clogged up...hope this helps a bit...

have you tried any other gas stations? have you been driving enough to waste a half tank before you fill up again? give some more details...

sounds like it might be a sensor problem... you should have that checked out! I got an 07 last month and within the first week and a half i had to have the tire pressure sensor replaced... good luck!

I've had a similar problem. Don't put the fill nozzle in quite so far and it'll be fine. About a half inch less will do.

it's how you're gassing it up and/or the gas station's problem.

nothing to do with the car.

I push the nozzle all the way in, you know how when you're pumping in gas and you hold it down, when the gas tank is full it clicks letting you know that it's full. But for me my tank isn't full and it clicks like a couple of seconds of pumping the gas. I've been able to pump gas fine, if I find a pump that works, but it's annoying when I get to one that wont let me gas up all the way.

It also sometimes helps to rotate it one way or the other, so that the curved nozzle fits the curve of the neck going to the tank. If the open end of the nozzle is up against the side of the neck it can restrict the flow enough to cause it to click-off.

Haven't had much issues with this on the tC, but with my previous car I always had to RAM the blasted nozzle completely into the filler neck 2-3 times before it'd finally work, and then usually also had to rotate it a bit to center it so it'd keep going.

I'm thinking possibly the angle of the nozzel in the filler hole is causing enough back splash to trigger the auto shut off on the pump. Have you tried different nozzel positions?

you're putting the nozzle too far in.

He is right, that happens on my friend's xB... which actually there was a recall but he found out after his warranty, so it wasnt covered ( it was some sorta special recall ) but it was because of the angle of the filler tube that is causing gas to splash back... at least on his...

So it could be that, id say if it does it at a lot of different pumps at the same angle, you may want to talk to toyota... if its just specific pumps, goto a different gas station

I don't think thats not whats causing the tC shut off.. the rubber (plate) around the gas nozzle is creating a complete seal with the tC filler hole, prevent the gas nozzle from sucking in air and "tripping" a shut off response.

all you have to do is pull back the nozzle about a 1/4 to 1/2 an inch away, and it should fill fine.

correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there were any recalls about any gas filling problems with xB.. and if it was recalled, wouldn't it of been covered even if it wasn't under warrenty.

yah i have the same problem. At one station, their pumps fit just right and I dont have to exert any pressure. But at this other station that i always go to, I have to constantly push the pump into the fuel tank and hold it down otherwise it will click like its full. Its the way the stations have their pumps, not your tc. just try playing around with it.

I don't know. It depends. I think it is a combination of our cars and gas station pumps. There is definitely a component of just our cars... I've never had the problem with other cars, and an 07 Camry at the same exact pump has NO problems.

It's also worse in the early morning. I can barely ever get a freakin full tank of gas, it always keeps clicking off no matter how much yoga or careful, slow modulation of the trigger I use. I seem to have better luck in the afternoon or at night.

It really ____es me off, do you realize how much time and especially MONEY (because gas that gets splashed back or recovered doesn't go into your tank, but you get charged for it anyway...) I waste like that?

It's ridiculous.

I get gas at either Hess and Kwik-Fill and it happens to me a lot too. I'll use the suggestions posted here next time I'm filling up, but in the meantime to the original poster, you aren't the only one.

Sometimes I'm ok with just putting the tip in. . . but it's just not fun if you don't put it all the way in.

To tell you the truth, I usually fill at a BP, and it always gives me problems. The Chevron pumps aren't perfect, but definitely better.

The thing is, I have to go signficantly out of my way to get to a Chevron. Not so much raw distance (it's pretty much "across the street"), but the fact that I'd have to go this way, drive a few blocks that way, then make a u-turn after waiting for an opening in traffic, etc.

The BP is right on my way to where I go. I can get in and get out without havnig to change my route at all.

I guess its a comprimise I have to make...

That happened to me when I had a problem with the fuel system. My check engine light was coming on because I needed a new fuel filler neck. Once it was replaced, the cel went off and I was able to gas up without difficulty. Check one more different gas station and if it still happens, bring it in for warranty repair.

Default Same Problem

Had the same problem and had it fixed. My problem was actaully due to a obstruction in the pressure release line going to the tank.

When you open your gas cap does it make a suction or woosh noise? If so, then this is your problem.

Very easy fix at the dealer.

Peace

the nozzle locks up on me sometimes as well. i think its either me putting it in to far or squeezing to fast, one or a combination of those things.
