Default Which gear do most of you guys start off on?

Well to explain myself, when i drive i find myself going from 2nd gear alot more than our tc's first gear.

And i mean when u are coming to say a local 4 way stop, as i slow down i nearly stop all they way, but i am slightly rolling, and sometimes when i try to stick in first gear the first time, it seems like it just stops before engaging, and it seems alot easier to stick it into 2nd and take off.

Is this bad for the tranny? Or just something most people are doing?

I usually start in 5th...

...my friend used to do the same thing as you did. Had to replace his whole tranny...so you figure it out.

I do the same. The only time Im ever in 1st is when im at a dead stop. Any froward momentum at all and Im rolling off in 2nd. 1st in my opinion is way too aggresive. Id take a lower final drive ratio instead of a 6 speed any day of the week for this car.

starting in second is slower and wastes more gas.

I always start in 1st... no matter what.. if im going 10mph or lower, its 1st... bogging the engine puts too much stress on too many parts...

u need to rev match a little if ur goin around 2-4mph and goin back to 1st. will save gas and be better on ur engine than lugging 2nd gear

rev matching to get it to work with 1st can be tricky sometimes when you are rolling slow. i was rolling down a hill and i went to put it in first, but the throttle delay was terrible so i didn't barely get any rev, when i let out the clutch, i thought i had stopped the car because it jolted so badly.
i'll use 2nd gear to start off in, only during the winter when i'm on a hill to prevent the tires from spinning alot

i'll use 1st gear only from a dead stop or close to it. anything faster than walking speed will make me use 2nd gear. the reason why i thinkk it's ok for our cars is because of the very close gear ratios.
i mean, come on. first gear is so incredibly short that second gear could almost make up for it

You are not doing you or your car any favors by starting out in second from a dead stop.

why dont you quit being lazy and come to a complete stop. LOL. Sometimes ill do the same cause if i go into first the revs will shoot way up and im like "ok then you wanted 2nd my bad tc" yes i talk to my car because she talks to me. I dont really see there being a problem with it, just dont lug/bog the motor.

They are saying they dont make a full stop at stop signs though =P

Well enough running stop sign tickets will stop you from doing that, it definaltly stopped me.
I always stop the full 2 seconds or whatever.

I don't think there's a time limit, ur wheels j/need to stop moving. u'll also feel ur car's weight transfer toward the rear when u've made a complete stop.

Well my driving school taught me to stop and clap twice, hehe.
I guess it is just to make sure you make a FULL stop though. Since so many of us love to roll through stop signs.

My city really is stop sign central, so pretty much everybody does the rolling stop. You can literally go through 15 stop signs in less than 1 mile, so to making 3 second stops woundnt only make it take forever to get anywhere, youd probably get your a$$ beat by the person behind you. I leave it in second and have no lugging or bogging when rolling off the line after slowing to maybe 5 mph.

Ya def stopping at a stop sign is good and if you arent going slow enough to put it in first if you dont stop all the way then you are even more so running the stop sign.....

you need to get more familiar with the gears..you cant just "throw" it in first like other gears..be gentle with it.

yes, it is true that people dont want you to stop the full stop. I dont care though, I have gotten 3 tickets for not fully stopping (even though I pretty much did, maybe I was moving 1 mph). SO i ALWAYS go to first gear, that way I know I am fully stopped.
I stop, shift to first and go.
