I clicked the link but the prices were the same as they showed over a week ago. What's the "special"?

Yeah, the price is still the same but its a heck of a deal!

We launched a special on the xA/xB parts today and I just thought I'd stop by and remind the tC folk obout this sale.

Sorry for the confusion...

why do u call this a sale this ____ is still very expensive and its funny how many people complain about the price yet these guys keep selling them left and right the only way to get a rpice drop is for people to stop buying until it is droped drasticly

i'm curious. is there anything about the short shifter other than a shorter rod coming up from the pivot point? in other words, could you achieve the same effect by taking the oem shifter and chopping the rod by some length (an inch, for example)?

yes yes, i know -- just sawing off the end means the threads are gone and all that. i'm asking this as a theoretical question to know more about the product. i have a short shifter on my miata and i love it, so i'm not afraid of putting one on the tC. i know that the miata's short shifter is exactly as i described -- simply a shorter rod using th same pivot point. however, toyota's shift mechanism is, like, way different from the miata. so i'm curious to know what all goes with this short shifter.

Thanx for the FAQ. That does help some. However, I am not 100% sure what it says makes sense. I installed a short shifter for my Miata and comparing the OEM shifter with what I replaced in the short shift kit (Simpson Design), it is obvious that the pivot point hasn't changed. It was just a shorter rod. I won it as a raffle prize, so it didn't matter to me what it was.

Now, that said, I also know (from looking) that the Scion's shift mechanism @ the rod is way different. So, I'm not disagreeing with your FAQ. What is unclear to me is what I get when I buy your kit. Is it JUST the rod pictured (which has the ball located about 2/3 of the way down the shaft) or is there also a new mounting mechanism (that white plastic pyramid-shaped contraption)?

If all you provide is the rod, how do you raise the pivot point? The large ball is the pivot point, right? All mountings BELOW that are what connect to the transmission. So they can't move, can they? If the ball (pivot) sits in that pyramid-like mounting, then you would have to include a new mounting to change the pivot point.

Or am I missing something here?

I'm very interested in a short shifter, I'm just puzzled by the tC's configuration and how this short shifter works with it. Thanks for bearing with what are likely to be very "blonde" questions.

The rod below the pivot ball is longer than stock so it travels further with the same motion engaging the gear faster. Hope this helps.

aaah, ok. now THAT makes a lot of sense!

but....er, how does that work if the mounting point is the same? isn't the ball mounted within the "pyramid"? (sorry for the nontechnical terms)....

I just had my console opened up to install the TWM short shifter today. Too bad I saw this e-mail just now, or I would have taken some pictures.

I don't remember exactly what made the shift shorter. The longer arm below the pivot is definitely at least part of it though. I think the theory is that if the arm is longer below the pivot point, the arm doesn't have to be as long above it. Also, you won't have to move the stick as much. Basically what the other guy said.

I can tell you that the throw is definitely shorter, and definitely notchier. It's also much less wobbly. It feels more like my friend's 350Z than the econobox that it is.
