Default Grrrr....Sunroof!

Well looks like i am taking my tC into Toyota this friday....i am getting an oil change, and my Vent replaced because it moves on it's own when the A/C is on High.....and then my sunroof....O LORDY! it's making terrible noises! only on tilt and when it's closed!!! when it's on tilt i swear it sounds like it's going to fall off, when it's fully open the noise goes away, now for some reason when it's closed you hear this rattle of death! So i made an appointment, told the service guy HEY I NEED TO GET THE TSB PERFORMED AGAIN...he was like WHAT! he said we'll talk about that when you get in...i said OK! so we'll see.

I'm starting to question the build quality of the tC (rattle in hatch, bad sunroof, etc), maybe I wont get one afterall.

You have to remember though that, most of the people who are complaining have the first year model tC's. I am not sure if these issues are in the new 06 model. I could be wrong though.

Also keep in mind that for every one or two or three tC owners that has hatch or sunroof problems, there are likely 1000's that have zero problems. Of course you're going to see them concentrated here...

Mine was fine the first thousand miles till one day I had the radio turned off and I was driving down the road and it sounded like a popcorn seed tapping on the glass , then I pulled in my driveway and it made groaning and creeking noises . I had the TSB performed I had it relubed and everything , no change in it at all . Of course the tech told me it was wiring harness in the roof panel maknig the noise so he of course put the foam stuff in there , and OF COURSE its still rattling like a popcorn seed in the glass . I love how they tell you its fixed and its still doing the same damn thing you showed them it was doing .

I've had my 06 tC for two months now and no problems. Only problem is I only have 900 miles on it. I'm following the manual's recommendation that you don't open the throttle until 2000 miles. At this rate that won't be for another two or three months. Frustrating! I want to break it in right since I plan on keeping the car for 10-15 years.

nah, even though everyone will have they're opinion of this...don't go crazy with the car for the first 1000 miles. also, don't drive it at a constant speed for a length of time, try to vary your speed. this has something to do with the piston rings or whatnot.

keep in mind that it's a TOYOTA camry engine. you won't kill it, it's a toyota

I'm starting to hear a rattle coming from either the hatch or the rear sunroof as of a couple days ago- and I have an '06... I can't hear it while I'm cruising, only if I hit a rough part in the road or go over a small bump, so its not exactly major. If it starts annoying me I'll try some foam tape.

My first car was a hatchback too and it rattled, creaked, and groaned. Hatchbacks are just a little noiser by default methinks.
