Default GSM Car Alarm

I have been searching and I have not found too much about car alarms. So if I am making this post and there is already a post about GSM, I am sorry.

Does anyone know anything about, or where to get a GSM car alarm. You can search for it on google and find a whole crap load of sellers of this alarm, but they are only selling in bulk. I only want one.

If you don't know what I am talking about when I say GSM - I am talking about a car alarm in which you can control your car from a cell phone (via text messages) and remote rather than just a remote. As far as I know, the further distance a remote alone will work is up to 2 miles away. With a cell phone, you could use it anywhere in the world. I realize that I will prolly never use it on the other side of the globe, but I am sure I would use it at greater distances than 2 miles - hell, many mall parking lots are bigger than 2 miles.

Plus... it would be really cool to start you car from your phone.

I am sorry, but I am unable to pull up that page. I will try again on another machine later tonight... this computer is a little tricky sometimes. Stupid computer!

But no, I do NOT mean GPS. I want GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) - Meaning that the system uses a cell phone, or cell phone technology to communicate with you. Thus, you can actuallty send your car a text message (SMS) or an email to start the car, and it would text you back when the car has been started.

I do not want an FM transmitter or an LCD pager that is so common with systems like viper, compustar and the others because as stated before, those have a very limited range. Don't get me wrong, those are nice, but I think it would be even nicer to control my car from my cell.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention - not bluetooth either. Though the technology is very cool, it seems that bluetooth also has it's limited range and I would prolly be better off with the FM transmitter.

This is probably going to be your easiest solution.

I have haven't heard of anyone in the US getting the GSM system to work.

Yeah, I figured that was going to be the easiest - those are all over the place. I was going to get the compustar alarm because I had it in my old car and I loved it... plus it has the longest range for an FM transmitter (up to 1.5 miles).

The technology is around, I know it can be done because I can find the alarms.
Here is a link to what I want

GSM car alarm

Like I said, I can find the item, but only for sale in bulk. Maybe here at scionlife, we can do something to where if 50 or more people want one, we can order it... it's only $140 if you buy it in bulk.

- Start Engine: start your vehicle’s engine over the web or phone and warm it up in a cold winter morning or cool it down in a hot summer afternoon. You will also receive vehicle’s location information along with the confirmation. (vehicle must be equipped with a remote car starter for this feature to activate)

Yes you are right, this particular model does not come with a car starter - just the option to remotely control it. There are other ones out there that do include a car starter...

But like I stated before, I am looking for one in the states. If anyone knows where to find one, please let me know. In the mean time, I will look for one that includes the starter and then post the price/link.

Ok, here is the best thing I have found...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...DME:L:RTQ:US:1

I have talked to the guy and he said that it does come with the remote starter and it works in the US. All you have to do is place a US sim card in the computer and you are good to go.

The guy is located in Malaysia, so he will have to ship it over seas. He said that the cost of air parcel overeas is around $50 USD... there is another option that costs more like $70 but I would be fine with the $50 option.
Also, don't be scared away by the price... $800 MYR is equivelant to about $220 USD.

He also said that if we did a bulk buy, he would give discounts.

Im having trust issues with that one ^ ... but your idea of having these controls thru a GSM network is really cool, if no ones got it, build it, patent it, and youre rich!

you know it's funny, a friend of mine has created this technology with his friend in illinois. and they've already tested it (my friend in cali called his car in illinois and started the car). i think it's awesome, and with this product you actually talk into your phone. it'll do tons of commands (i.e. start the car, turn the stereo on, turn on ac, turn lights on/off etc.) if i remember right he said it'll do over 700 commands. i gotta get more info from him, but i think he said the cost may be a little high because you have to buy the cell phone specifically for your car.

^ Looks like a patent pending... well, I thin it's a matter of time before this is perfected

Buying the cell phone for you car is not a big deal for me... I have an extra one so all I have to do is get a pre paid calling card... I know that you can get a 3 month GSM card from T-mobile for $25. I am sure there are minute useage restrictions, but if you never use the minutes, then the card expires in 3 months. Or you can get a year one for $100... every year after that it's only $10.

I am pretty sure I am not going to be using a lot of minutes talking to my car "Oh, baby... I love you..." though I am sure my fiancee might argue otherwise
But this is another reason why I wanted it to do it with text messages and not talking. See what your friend has to offer and please post.

As far as the other alarm from ebay. I don't think there is really much to worry about - but I can understand where you are coming from. If nothing comes up in a couple of months, I am either going to build this thing myself or order the one from Malaysia... I would order one from china, but like I said earlier - they are all bulk buys.

i'm not sure about this yet, but...i don't think you'll have to use minutes. it's just used as a remote (basically)

I'd be interested in buying somthing like this. Feel like James Bond. Would it work with a manual tho? Like the starter for instance.

hey do you guys know of any "force field" alarms? you can set them to a certain area around your car, and if something cross "the field" the alarm goes off.

Maybe you are looking for something with a motion sensor? Many car alarms now have the motion sensors that you can add on... when someone crosses the line, the alarm either goes off or just chirps - kind of like a vibration or shock alarm.

Some of them even talk to you - "You are too close to the vehicle". However, I think these are really annoying if you set the limit too far away - then anything sets it off.
