Default Has anyone backed out of a deposit?

Just wondering how hard it was to get your money back? I gave $150 in cash, got a receipt, then went out and found my car someplace else, how should I go about getting my money back and will there be any resistance?

You shouldn't have any resistance. You should just tell them you want your deposit back and they should get to it. It could take a few days for them to cut you a check and send it to you, but that's no big deal. If they do give you a run-around just show up in person (during the day, when their business office is open) and demand your check right away.

I had put a deposit down at two different dealerships but then the car I wanted ended up coming into another one first. One dealership had taken a "hold check" so I just went back and picked it up. The other dealership had taken a credit card payment and I called them and they reversed the charges right away. No problems at all getting my deposits back. -Jayme

LOL, actually I did drive there to pick up my deposit check in my new tC. The dealer that had taken my deposit was outside when I pulled up and he walked over and checked out my car and thought it was awesome. He congratulated me and said he would have done the same thing if the car had come into another dealership first. Both dealerships were very understanding about me cancelling my deposits which was really nice. -Jayme

I almost backed out of my deal when trying to find a tC. Just so you know, not all dealers are happy that you look elsewhere. My dealer threatened to rip up my contract and give back my deposit for even asking about dealer trades or thinking about going to another dealer.

Just so you know, I -HIGHLY- recommend no one purchase from San Francisco Scion. Especially not from Edwin.

Why not? I went in to get my deposit back in my brand new tC He asked how come, I told him because I didnt want to wait anymore and I have one parked outside, They were cool about it and said np they wish they could have gotten mine faster, but they have no control over it.

I got my $500 deposit charged back onto my credit card within maybe 10 minutes. They (Melody Toyota) were taking way too long, and I found my car elsewhere. I actually did drive in there on my new tC and they didn't seem too upset. They'll sell the car to someone else, demand is high enough. But to be nice I took some of my dealer's cards and I hand them out to everyone who asks about my car.

Deposits? My dealer told me they didn't need a deposit. If I didn't want the car, someone else would.
