Default Help. Stripped bolt on shock mount.

So i was installing my trd shocks sturts and springs today. Following few diys and did pretty good I got three of them on but the passenger side rear shock mount stripped on me, the big bolt on the bottom. Should I try to remove it from the nut side? or what?

So the bolt that connects your strut to the control arm is stripped? How much ft/lb were you using? Did it strip when you were tightening it back on or when you were removing it?

did you strip the nut or cross-thread the bolt? either way get some clearance between the bolt shaft and the lower control arm and cut the sucker off, make sure you have a replacement first...

I stripped the head on the bolt, but the nuts fine. Ft/lbs. i have no idea. I was trying to take it off. I was using a 1/2 inch breaker bar and i guess the socket twisted a little then stripped the bolt. If I try doing it from the bolt do you think it'll come off? I know they have little locking studs on them or is thay just gonna strip too?

words of wisdom........always when breaking a bolt loose use the correct size and always use either open end wrench,6 sided box wrench or 6 sided socket,.......using a 12 sided box or socket will give just enough to strip the bolt or nut,6 sided are designed to grip just right and stop stripping..........very comman.

Not saying you did not use these, but trying to give a ehlping hand to others that may end up in the sme boat, prevention is always best.

have u try to take the nut off instead?

When i was taking the bolt off, i feel it getting ready to stripe. i feel the socket move a little but the bolt wasn't going anywhere.
So i went to the other side and took off the nut instead.

Yeah it was a 12 sided socket. I was thinking about going and getting a 6 sided one tomorrow to see if i could get it off with that. It just sucks. I have 3 trd shocks and one oem lmao, and i did them all with the tools i already have. It was just this one. I'm thinking since I had a freind of mine who has a shoop put the springs on my oem shocks might have stipped it a little and I finished it off. By the way thank you for all your help. I'll let you know what happens tomorrow. Anymore suggestion on how to get this off will be appreciated.

goto Sears, they have them.......I work there so I know we got the very one you need cause I bought mine there.Check the complete meteric socket set,it is about $10 more than the single socket.

12 points are for once you break loose the bolt in a tight area you can have more chances to grip bolt and get it out.
