Anybody successfully install a set of HID's yet??? I am wanting to try it, but im not sure if you need to first install a projector style light housing into the headlamp.

Hid kits are junk. Period. They are illegal for a reason.
It has been beat to death on this forum (here's only a small sample):

And our assertion that HID kits are crap is not an opinion, it is a fact.
All an HID kit will do is make the bad parts of your halogen lights a LOT worse:
-More glare = ____ed off on-coming traffic.
-More color = less light and more eye fatigue and strain for you.
-Same crappy spread of light.
-Intensified hot spots.
Not only that, but HID kits are notoriously unreliable.
Hawkeye is right...this is topic is like a broke record???
These aftermarket companies offering these "kits" are krap! IMO, this was just a way to pinch more money off the ill informed consumer. I find it funny when consumers then turn on these companies for selling them this junk in the 1st place.
And when the bulb blows (and they will) , bulbs bought as a kits, or bulbs used in a Halogen headlamps are not covered. Some kit manufacturers use Philips bulbs, as parts of their kits and sell a warranty. Only HID bulbs sold with a car that comes with and OEM HID system, are warranted from Philips. That leaves the retailer or the kit manufacturer responsible in replacing parts. And its highly unlikely your get a "warrantied" replacement.
And if these companies are replacing these bulbs like some are, they're probably using "altered" bulb replacements. Not true OEM manufacture bulbs.
If everyone would just do alittle homework, they would all find that, to truely have a legit HID system, you have to really know what your getting into first. Some of you are too quik to "throw" your money at these companies.
Conversion kits don't last as long b4 you find yourself replacing parts. Theres a reason why a projector is built into the fixture. To displace the light correctly, with out blinding others in on coming traffic. And thats just one...there are other factors
This is getting to deep...do urself a favor...
Do you homework...and my suggestion...stay away from these conversion kits.
But in the end it will be up to you.

This is also pretty damn expensive for no-name components.

*coughs* bulls**t
HID bulbs? As in, really bright bulbs?
There are *no* HID 'bulbs' for a normal OEM housing. True HID's would melt the chromed plastic, the lens, and probably part of your front bumper.
HID's are housed in a metal casing, with a projector lens over them for a reason.
If you want brighter lights, go with Sylvania Silverstars, or wait until a true HID conversion headlamp comes out aftermarket.
Either way, replacing the bulbs in your headlight assembly yourself, OEM bulbs or not, will void the warranty on your headlight assemblies.
Here's a tip: if it costs hundreds to thousands less than it should, there's probably something wrong with it.

HID bulbs do get hot, but no where near hot enough to melt lights and bumpers.
