^ Even if you contact the insurance... you're f_____. I feel your pain, though. I was involved in a hit-and-run two nights ago and I'm going to have to replace the rear bumper. Your insurance may cover hit-and-runs, but it usually hikes up your premium for three years. Unless it's a lot of damage, you're probably better off paying for it out of pocket. My rear bumper is all scratches and has some dings in it. It going to be cheaper for me to replace the bumper myself than to pay more on insuruance.

People suck. Chances of catching the person are super-slim.

this would go under comprehensive or un-insured motorist coverage. this does not effect your premiums, your premiums are only effected when you use your liability and collision coverage. you should have called the police and made a report. now call your insurance company and file a claim, have the car inspected an move on. it sucks, i know, but really nothing more.

now, the claim adjuster will examine the car's damage, and your claim history to determine whether or not to file it under collision or comprehensive.

Make a police report and contact your insurance. Not rocket science. Sucks to hear about your car, same thing happened to me.

I'd say this is true, and also to an extent as to what Drax said too.
Granted it wouldn't look the same as say for ex. YOU backed into something or someone else's car. If it is only minor damage then it may not affect your ins. rates and also if you've only had a few claims in your history or none at all. But the part that may cost you more in the long run, is that regardless whether its your fault or not, the more history of claims a person has, technically the higher risk factor you are to them.
and BTW... sorry to hear, it does suck that there are many people out there not willing to take responsibility for their own actions.

this is why insurance premiums vary based on where you live. if you live in the country, or have your own driveway or garage, the chances of a hit and run are far lower than if you live in the city, in apartment complex or town house area etc, or park on the street. those are what determine your comprehensive premiums or un-insured hit and run offenses.

that's true. There are many factors that go into calculating a premium for each person.

Call the cops and have a written report. So your insurance will take care of it.

If you have full coverage, insurance shouldn't go up if it's not your fault. They will put it on the record and if you have too many of these hit and run cases, they will drop you, but not increase your insurance.

hm. thanx for the advise. i thought since they have to pay for something they think "well if we have to pay he has to pay." "OH! lets jack up his insurance." "GREAT IDEA!" *high five*

My mom's car has been hit many times. One was hit and run, the other was no insurance on the other driver. You will most likely have to pay the premium or whatever it is called which can be $300, $500 or whatever you are paying for. I know when my mom had a hit and run and a guy with no insurance, she just paid the $300 and everything got fixed and no increase in insurance rates.

your insurance rates only go up if you cause an accident and use your liability or collision coverage. comprehensive and un-insured motorist coverages don't jack your rates up because you are not at fault.

a tree falls on your car, a deer jumps out in the road while you're driving and you hit, the chances of these things happening are the same for just about everybody and they can't fault you for being the unfortunate person to experience this happening.

now, the only problem is that without a police report, they could examine the car, and determine whether or not to put it under your collision or un-insured motorist coverage, but if you have paint transfer on the car, it will probably be favorable to your story and they'll put it in un-insured motorist.
