Default how do they tow cars?

ive always wondered it, how do tow people tow ur cars if ur parked illegal and ur not around etc...

the back wheels are locked by the brakes, and the front wheels are locked if its in gear. so they cant drag the car, and they cant roll it on to the lift cuz the car wont roll!

what do they do!

they use a slim jim to break into your car, and release the parking brake and/or take the car out of gear.

Doesn't matter. They still can get in... I think you can actually get to the lock mechanism through the door handle... Atleast I KNOW you can with the xB...

hehe....well now these days there are so many tools to get in your car....just about any new model. such as slim jim, two identical bent sided 1/2 inch pole(i think thats the measure), a air pump to open more of door or jam to slide the slim jim through the door. so yeah, theres many ways to get in...sucks though you need some kind of license to get them. i worked at a dealer and we use them a lot because of salesman or detailer's always accidentally lock in the car with keys in it, after they are done using or cleaning it. well after seeing these tools...it gives a good idea of how to make your own, sure i don't know if its illegal to hmm (all of a sudden) to have homemade break in tools, though it good to have in case of a emergency. or want to be evil...jk jk

If the wheels are locked or any of the sort, they'll just drag the car. I know this because I've seen it done because with my job, I've had to get like 3 cars towed.

tow truck drivers will drag the car if they have to; they're priority is to get the car out of the spot where its at

The best anti-tow mechanism is to make ur car super sexy so that the tow truck driver will just move it to a non-illegal parking spot (V-Dub Commercial)

i just worry because it says in the manual not to tow the car by dragging the front or rear wheels. it should only be towed on a flat-bed truck.

i'm pretty sure they can't willfully damage your car. they can only "accidentally" do it.

this is how they towed cars on campus(URI) all the time. glad i graduated and now i dont have to deal with that ish anymore. makes me sick to see how some tow truck drivers rip these cars out of the spaces too.

yeah, looking at those tow truck drivers, just be happy they don't disassemble your car and load them on the truck.

I have seen them with dollies, I think that's the best way for both parties.

My husband drove a wrecker and specialized in trespass towing for many years. He has an expensive set of door tools that will pretty much open most cars almost as quickly as you can open it with a key. On a front wheel drive car, he'll hook it from the front with a wheel lift (he ran dynamic and eagle claw auto loaders and didn't even need to get out of the truck to hook the car) and only unlocked the door to release the parking brake if needed. (you would be surprised how many people don't use the parking brake) . I locked car rarely slowed him down. Most times, he only needed 15-20 seconds top.

Wheel dollies.

Anything you do isn't going to stop a tow truck driver. I'm glad to see the person above me at least had a husband who was a competent driver... I can't tell you how many times I see tow truck drivers towing away FWD vehicles on their front wheels or even AWD on their front wheels around here

If its a good tow truck driver, your car will be gone in less than a minute. Its basically legalized car theft and I personally feel tow truck drivers are the scum of the world. Especially impound lot drivers. If there is a group of people I have no sympathy for, it is them!
