How does Seat Memory work on our tCs?
I took my tC in yesterday to have them check out why my seat memory on my driver's side (obviously) is not working. It stopped working about a month ago for no particular reason. It worked when someone got into the back seat and didn't return back when he got out of the car.
The seat bottom will not move until you "straighten" out the seat back. It will not slide back, not even an inch, until you move the seat back to the first clicking position. Then the seat bottom slides to the first clicking position for it and stops. So, in essence, my seat ends up as far forward and as straight as it can be.
The tech at Alexandria Toyota told me that was normal. Can you believe that? I explained to him how the seat memory works and he STILL insisted that only electronic seats have seat memory. I told him to look in the shop manual, in my tC manual in the trunk, or just go out to any tC on the lot and check the driver seat on it and he would know what I'm talking about.
I got a call 5 minutes to 4pm to go pick up my car (they close at 4). The service record said "could not duplicate the problem." So, they did not fix anything. I have to take it back on Wednesday because they ordered my moonroof recall thingy (yeah, I'm a procrastinator) so I'm gonna stay there and teach them how it is supposed to work.
Anywho, I wanted to know if anyone here knew how it works, mechanically. Is there a spring or a locking block that determines where it returns to?
Thanks guys.

Yeah, I feared that if I took mine in, they'd "find nothing wrong" and I just said fuggit.
Mine never worked after they installed the leather, and I don't have the patience - I'm sure those monkeys would break something else while it's there, so it's staying broken.

seat memory works mechanically.
it only returns to it's spot when you use the lever on the side of the seat that's on top.. the small lift lever thing...
when you use the recline part to move the seat... it wont remember.
as for the actual mechanics of it.. i'd have to look up.

I know my driver seat works that way... however, my passenger side only remembers the slide possition if you keep the back rest part of it inclide forward until you hit the remembered slide part of the bottom of the seat and then pull the back of the seat up. If you straighten out the back first and then try to slide the bottom back, it will stop at the first position.
I don't konw if thats how its suppost to work or not
