How to get the stereo out???
ok so if you haven't read my post about my car being totaled Sunday evening, here it is https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=165966
anyway, when I went to the impound lot to get all the stuff out of my car, I tried to eject all the CDs , but they wouldn't come. I guess it's because of all the damage done to the front, but my point is, they won't come out and I need to know how to pull the stereo out of the dash so I can manually extract the cds...
can anyone please tell me how I can pull the whole thing out and then get my cds out? I called the dealership and they said they would just have it sent to the manufacturer to do it, but my car's going to the salvage yard this weekend! Is there some sort of special release button that allows you to pull the whole unit out??? I need to know ASAP!!
thanks

its simple, you just pop off the 2 silver peices left and right of the gear shifter, then the silver peice that goes all the way up past the cd player, it all literally pops off, its hard at first and i guess it doesnt matter to you but it feels like it is gonna break, but it wont, then there is 2 screws on the bottom of the cd player and 2 bolts on the top, then it slides right out.
To clarify, there is just one piece around the shifter. The two silver parts are connected to the black part as well. While you may not care too much about whether you break it, you may also want to try salvaging some of the pieces for resale.
Remove shift ****
Pull on the two silver sides. Pull back and up.
Once that piece is loose, unplug cig lighter
Pull from the bottom of the upper console part first, down near the cubby hole
Once it is out, the top pops free easilly
Remove the two 10mm bolts on the top stereo mount
Remove the two phillips screws on the bottom of the mount
Pull free and remove harness
Fortunately for us (and thieves I guess) it takes less than 5 minutes to have it all out. It is really easy. I can remove the center console, gauges, stereo and lower portion of console with armrest in about 8 -10 minutes
