Default how good is the tC?

okay, my co worker is gettin a tC, but to me it's a cool "looking car"

But he's so obsessed i don't want to ask from him because he don't even have it yet, he said he's waiting on the 06

well my impression of scions... hella cheap cars, u pay for what u get, the cheap cars are made with cheap materials, why get one?

well cheap materials can be good if taken care of, that's what convinced me because i have cheap crap too

any how... my 1 million dollar question is, what do you like and dislike about scion tC

what is wrong with the tc

They are not by any means, "cheap" cars. It's an incredible value for what you get. You're getting Toyota quality/reliability for an amazing price. It seems like you have been mis-informed at some point. I suggest a little more research or maybe use the search option at the top of the page. There are many threads one what people like/dislike about the tC.

Personally, I can't think of anything major that I dislike about mine. I love it.

i dont like the flip cover for the head-unit. but if i had a high end head-unit i would probly use it and like it. As it is i have stock, and enjoy even the stock radio in this ride.

The flip cover with aftermarket radios is a major plus because you don't have to remove the faceplate whenever you park.

I guess the stock shifter was a little to high, the back could have a higher roof, and the engine could use more oomph (Turbo?). For the price though, I expected to get a lot less of a car. My car is more luxurious, stylish, and reliable then most $21-24k cars out there. I'm sure almost every tC owner would agree.

agreed, its my first new car.... and i feel like its a BMW. And treat it as such. I feel very informed and grateful i didnt buy any of the other cars in this price range. Ive never once considered my car cheap, even sitting next to high end cars.

For an ITServices type person, you certainly don't fit the mold of doing your homework before you start naysaying something. Or perhaps you are one of the IT people that just jumps in with both feet and nothing more than a gut feeling, which is why there are an abundance of IT people, most of which are underqualified.

What cheap materials are you speaking of?
Keep in mind this is a toyota motor division product, the same company that makes Lexus. The "material" they use, such as the plastic, glass, metal, is all the same for all three divisions. It's not like they buy/use different plastic for Lexus vehicles than they do for Scion ones. The fit and finish may be a little different, the type of trim accents may differ, and osme of the options differ across all three motor car lines, but the actual material itself all comes from the same suppliers. You're not seriously going to call Lexus cheap, are you?

As far as getting what you pay for, if you want to pay $2-4000 more for an Acura, that has less equipment standard, less power, just so you can have a three letter car name, instead of two, go right ahead. Plus, JD Power has it as the "sporty car segment leader in just its first year of study eligibility." Click Me

To asnwer your question....

Things I love about my tc:
Only car with standard panoramic sunroof in it's class
Power doors/windows/mirrors....standard
Good blend of gas mileage/performance
Excellent reliability
"Most car" you can get for the price

Things I would change, if I were desiging the car:
6 speed manual instead of the 5, or perhaps a wider gear ratio.
Rear wheel drive
Optional Nav

*That's* it.

I have done searches, and there are claims that the tC are made of cheap materials you can find some of those comments at edmunds i won't go in detail

So get a life and use ur time wisely and stop flamming on the forums

Stop flaming? What flaming? He was making an assumption, he was wrong... so what.

And I think many of us would be interested in these cheap materials things you're finding. If there's stuff at edmunds that you've seen, by all means - post it.

Otherwise, it appears that you're just trolling at this point. But I could be wrong.

1) If you want to have an intelligent conversation/argument, learn correct spelling/grammar/english (critisize, IT don't stands for)
2) Checking edmunds, I see nothing but good reviews on their 2005 model year of the tc. 2006 has no review thus far. I see *no* mention of cheap materials. If you really *had* done extensive searching, I suspect you wouldn't be on this forum, trolling for replies, since you: a)neither own a scion b)appear to have a lack of appeal for them c)so far have nothing to say about them except negative things. If you really had done extensive searching, you'd find all the reviews praising scion's build quality, and initial quality awards (see previous post/link regarding JD Power and Associates)

Oh my....you've called me a loser, and accused me of flaming....all this coming from someone who just got on this site, and started flaming scions/tc's in general.

Since you clearly have such disdain for tc's/scions, WHY ARE YOU HERE????
Are you so bored that you have nothing better to do, other than to look up reasons to convince your friend (who is clearly smarter than you are) to not buy something he wants??

Oh and lastly, according to your user profile, your occupation says IT intern... I apologize for thinking you meant the most common use of IT intern. Did you mean Immature Tool instead?

From all the reading I have done on the forums, I remeber someone saying that part of the reason that the tC is very well priced is the fact that alot of the engineering was brought from the Toyota Avensis. The Avensis being a european model, I think. Anyway I love my tC, I have a family and pratically drove my wife nuts because I wanted to trade in our Toyata Rav4 for the tC. Finally after a year and a half she gave me the big OK. I like everything about it. Only things I would change are color options for the interior, and things better to do with aftermarket products like lowering the car.

I love my tC and everything about it with one exception.

Due to the design of the rear lift gate, water will run down the rear glass and into the cabin when it is raining, or anytime there is water on the rear glass.

Other than that, I think the tC is a great deal.

For the money, you can't beat it.

Is it fast? No.
Is it luxurious? No.
Does it have sports car handling? No.
Is there anything better for the price? No.

That's the idea. People also expect a little too much, such as the case with rattles. A $17k car will have some issues. If you don't want to deal with these little issues, buy a Lexus and pay $30k+. This car actually has very few small issues, and for some people none whatsoever.

Made by Toyota is all I need to hear when thinking of quality.

To help aid in your decision, or to sway you from thinking that these are cheap cars here are a few points you should know...
1: Scion saved millions on research and development because they already had the power plant made. Its the same engine from the Camry and 4cyl Solaras, just geared differently.
2: They saved more by using the frame off of the Toyota Avensis, a European sports car.
3: More money saved... the entire assembly line for TC's was made on computor simulators, so they were working out problems and had a near perfect assembly line before the first production TC was ever made! ( side note: it takes 6 hours to build a TC)
4: Even though the TC went from a clay model to a production car in about 18 months, record fast, a lot of refined development went into this company, after all Toyota is trying to make a loyal base of future car buyers.

I'll be your huckleberry. So you say you are a future scion owner. Please do us all a favor and dont buy a scion, just so I dont have to see your stupid posts anymore that would make us all happy. Also stay out of your friends kool-aid because you really do know the flavor..

^^^ lol! I think his lack of response at this point, especially after ack and myself have both called him out on trolling, is a pretty good indication of what he was doing.

tc is cool, but toast is flamming, if that's not flamming i dunno what is

im gettin the tC so i can't give any other imput until i get it, but if you noticed the reviews in edmunds, there were only a few bad comments about the car, majority were good

i read about bumpy rides
err come on 17-18 inch rims, and going over bumps at high speed... any car will feel that bump

oh here's a good one, it's too slow, i waste alot of gas
if you complain its' slow then your a fast driver which means u will blow gas

Personally, I dont care whether you think I'm flaming someone or not. I'm not on here to impress you, or anyone else. I'm on here to help people, and to provide information.

When I see someone that is spreading false information ("the tc is made from cheap materials" and " you pay for what you get"), I call them out. The guy claimed he did his homework, but he clearly didn't, cause if he did, he'd know about all the reviews that are claiming lexus like quality on these cars. Apaprently, he got all bent out of shape on this, and called me a loser, etc etc. I didn't take too kindly to being called names, especially from a troll.

If you want to consider that flaming, such is your right. I think most people on this board that have talked to me would say they find me helpful. If you aren't one of them, I'm not going to lose any sleep over that.
