It will be fine for our cars however to change the oil at the reccommeded 5000 miles, with your first oil change being at around 1000 miles to flush out any bits of metal left over from the factory. If your using synthetic oils such as mobil one the life of the oil increases to about 8 or 9,000 miles. Also, synthetic isnt reccommended for the first oil change.
The folks who write the owner's manuals would disagree with you about dusty conditions making no difference.

Does it? I don't really know enough about the subject to say. I'm not trying to pick a fight here, just curious -- why would you choose to take that guy's word over Toyota's?

Because of what he mentions about how piston rings work. He provides examples and even some proof. Also because of his profession and what he's learned from his customers break-in methods. Did you read that whole page? I don't want to repeat what he says. Check it out, it's interesting.

Not trying to pick a fight or anything here but did you use this method on your tC? What he says makes perfect sense to me. I just want to here from a third party that has tried his method without any adverse conditions.

I was redlining my car from day one, and I made sure to run the engine up in 3rd gear and let off and let the engine coast down (while in gear) a few times. If there was any question about the piston rings seating, that should take care of it. I've had no problems with the engine and get 26-30mpg depending on how crazy I drive.

Also, a week or so ago I changed my oil with about 4950 miles on my car. The oil was the cleanest I've ever seen come out of a car: darker than new oil, but a medium golden brown color that I could still see through (think whiskey or maybe light pancake syrup color.)

thanks for all your input guys, I took mine out again today and went nuts, I just love to drive it. I go to work and just can't wait to get off work to blast around town, and to think I got it for the gas mileage this is the first car where when I go someplace that I need to go, like walmart or something, and I get home, I "have to" go back to walmart and a number of other stores because I "forgot" something lol
