I want to remove the big black plastic main dashboard thing. has anyone done this? does anyone know how to do this? is the airbag gonna blow up?

 

(i'm trying to do this to do some sound deadening back there)

also, is there some black carpet piece north of the floor mats? I got mine used and it looks like theres a missing piece...

 

if not entirely sure which "big black plastic main dashboard thing" you are refering too but I would think that the trouble it would be to remove whatever it is for some sound deadening wouldn't be worth it. You'd be better of sound deadening the doors, floors, rear panels, trunk area. There is a great post about how to remove most everything to be able to get this accomplished.

P.S. - also might help if you had an image of which piece to want to remove

 

I mean the enormous 4 foot wide black dashboard, the main piece. goes from one side of the car to the other.
