I didn't know I bought the EXPLODING ROOF option
I can vouch for the loose interior trims too. especially the trim on the inside door handles (the piece with the chrome circle) which pop off quite easily. I must admit, however, they make excellent "stash spots" for anything you might not want someone to find! :wink wink:
"Body integrity" is basically how well the pieces fit together, not strength, safety, quality. Remember, too, that they buy their test cars from dealers, right off the lot - no special preps by the manufaturer to make sure the 'test car' is perfect like Car and Driver and all the others.
If you read the 'key' above, you will see that there is a lot more than just how well the pieces fit, which is "body integrity."

One may not agree with what or how CR tests (I have my own disagreements with them) but at least they are consistant, test 'real world' vehicles, have clearly defined objective rather than subjective criteria, and actually say what they are testing and how.
If you don't like one of their criteria, or feel it is something that makes no difference to you, ignore it. Ther rest of the stuff is still valid.
Anyway, this info is here because someone said they hadn't seen it and wanted to. Take it with a grain of salt - or the whole salt block if necessary...

And Tomas, thanks for all the CR info. I'm sure you also noticed their 0-60 time of 8.8 seconds for the manual tC...grain of salt indeed!
Do those Mercedes C230's have problems with their roof's shattering?
That's probably the closest thing to the roof on the TC. A cursory search on google has found plenty of other problems, including the roof not opening and the roof squeaking and creaking (that sounds familiar...) but none of them shattering.

So,
Any word from the dealer on what my have caused the glass to break?
I was thinking if the wind deflector didn't actually close, it could create some interesting wind/pressure issues on the closed glass roof. But, from what others have said it may have just popped open after the glass broke.

Got the car back tonight with the new roof in there looking good as new.
And...I think I'm going to keep the car. I felt okay driving it back home tonight. That is, I'm *pretty* sure I'm going to keep the car. I mean, if I'm driving by myself, I can handle it, but I also don't want to be worried when I'm driving with passengers. We'll see.

Man, sorry to hear about what happened but most importantly is that ur safe. Hm...any problems withe the G6? Don't they have a roof like ours sorta? its just theirs is divided in to 4 openening panels? Just a though....any reviews on those who have acess to CR? Like someone said earlier tho, I wonder if the new ES's have that problem?
Bro your description of how things happened is exactly the way it sounded and felt for me. This happened yesterday while I was driving. All windows closed no music no cars around no overfpass and BOOM and gun shot goes off this is way tooo weird... your pictures are pretty much identical to how mine shattered
Do you guys have your sunroofs tinted?
The sunroofs are made of laminated glass, when you put tint on them it makes one layer of glass expand and contract at different rates than the other layers. This is what causes the glass to explode. I can happen on a cool day too because the glass progressively gets weaker and one day it might only need a little sun light for the tint to trap in the glass.

Peckinorder - you should report your incident to Customer Care. They won't be really able to do anything for you right now, but it's good to have everything on record in case this happens again.

So the problem was noted by scion for at least some cars and i know mine has already been replaced (both recalls). Sorry to hear about your unfortunate incident though
when did the recall come out for the whole sunroof??? I got one for the little front part, which i still need to get fixed...but my car's an 05 and i've had it since october and never got that one...i'll have to call the dealer

You'll note that to rate "average" a car has to have no more than three of those body intgegrity problems listed above. The tC rated two steps down from "average."
"Body integrity" is not "crash safety."

Here, so you won't need to click on a link, are those results, again:

Hope that helps to clarify...
Yup, on one of my two Cherokees the rear hatch window blew up - Jeff Jeep was only about two months old and parked in the garage. Jeff hadn't been out all day and suddenly there was this 'WHAP!' noise from the garage and when the wife and I went out to see what the noise was, there were little 1/4th inch cubes of glass all over the garage floor.
Dealer service manager said we must have hit it with something, was our problem - went to owner of the dealership, and Ron took maybe 30 seconds to say "Defect - we'll fix it, Tom".
With tempered glass that is just expected with a certain percentage of product. The number is low, but it does exist, and you will find it in any good article about tempered glass.
