Default I dinged a vette stingray with my TC's door!! (long post)

This is funny as heck, so read it through.... Ok... I parked my car right next to this really awesome looking silver corvette stingray when I was going to the bank in the morning to drop of my deposit for work and I noticed I was close to this guy's car so I opened up my door real carefully and got out, and when I came back, I opened it up carefully, got in and let go of the door for a second to reposition myself before I closed the door and I had the door open to that friction point where it stops, and I guess I was on an incline but it popped past that point for a second to the point where it actually swings a bit and stops and it hit the other guy's car enough to make a mark in his paint.... now keep in mind this guy must've loved his car's paint because it was immaculate. so I was like "oh god, what should I do, leave a note? find the guy because obviously he must be in the bank? drive away....? no way I'd kill someone if they did that..."

so I remembered I just washed my car 2 days ago and was running late for work afterwards so I just tossed my huge box of car stuff in the back... and it has my Meguire's ScratchX in it, so I get out and get my stuff and get to work on the guy's car....

I realized it was only a scratch in the clearcoat and not the paint, so I used the scratchX and buffed it out and it hazed his paint over compared to the rest of his waxing... crap... so I checked the paint on the door for dirt and it was like squeaky clean so I dusted it off with my micro-fiber cloth and re-waxed his door with my P21S carnuba wax and was letting it sit for a minute and this guy with a suit on comes up and asks what the hell I'm doing to his car....

oooooh boy..... So I start getting into this whole schpeal about what happened and argueing with him because he thought I was trying to steal his car or something and I told him what happened, then I said I needed to get the wax off before it started hazing and he looked at me funny obviously realizing I know what I'm talking about and started asking me all these questions about my box'O'stuff while I was buffing the wax off of his door.... talk about your awkward moments... so then he starts looking at it and checking it out and looks at me and says "looks good, real good... bet you're going to be more careful with your door from now on huh?" and I said something like coating my door in rubber and he thanked me for fixing it and was glad it wasn't worse, told me a little about his car and said he's gonna have to buy some stuff I had because it looked really great....

well, long story short, I wish every door ding was like that and people actually were careful with what their doors do and care enough to do something about it... I'm sure anybody else woulda said screw em and drove off, or done even worse damage because they weren't watching what they were doing in the first place

Haha. That's awesome. I wish more people were actually like that. Whenever I see a brand new car parked with a huge splash of bird crap on it, the urge to go for my microfiber towel and the quik detailer is almost unbearable...

You're lucky, though. My dad had one of those cars way back when, and he said it was mostly fiberglass... Dinged and cracked like nobody's buisiness.

I thought that you were going to take off and leave it and I would ahve to hurt you for doing that to such a nice car.......but you are a good guy and I feel bad about thinking that now. Props to you!! And to the owner of the Stingray for not being a completel and total A-hole about it.

I was wondering how you "dinged" a stingray since they are fiberglass.

I too would have had to hurt you if you said you just left and thought it was funny.

I own a 72 steel cities grey corvette stingray and I love it. I'm not sure what I'd do if I found someone messing with its paint no matter what happened.
